So my dad was here for a few weeks, and he and I went out and messed with the 4runner....we wanted to make some headway on this EGR cooler plate leak. So the first thing of course was to get the plate off there. Was really not too bad getting it off with the engine installed. So I did that. The gasket was definitely compromised at the bottom, at least I think it was because it left a good chunk of gasket on the back of the head while the rest was attached to the plate itself. As I mentioned in my previous post, I put the 2 longer bolts on the bottom, and the 3 shorter bolts in the other holes. Since I have this extra head laying here, we looked at all the holes, and really could not figure out why any of the bolts should be any longer than the others. The hole depths all seem the same. So I went online searching and I found this parts diagram for the EGR cooler plate with the Toyota part numbers, and it clearly shows that 4 of the bolts are the exact same part number, the fifth hole which is the only hole that is open in the back over on the exhaust side, it is not a blind hole, that bolt is different. Not wanting to have the wrong bolts, I ordered all 5 new bolts from Toyota, 4 of the 91611-60822, and 1 of the 91651-40825, along with the gasket itself 11182-35050. This is not going to be easy getting it in there while the engine is installed, but I think it is doable. The 22re performance page says to use antiseize on the bolts, so I may do that. I have scrubbed the back of the head with scotch brite to get all the bits of gasket off there and scraped it with my fingernail to make sure it is gone. Just waiting on the parts to show up to put it all back together. I suspect that I had the wrong bolts all along, perhaps just slightly too long to snug this thing down. I don't know if I messed up and go the bolts wrong, well, that's probably a safe assumption, I must have mixed them up when I had all this apart and maybe just did not have it properly snugged down...fingers crossed this is the last time.
