first of all, welcome to yotatech! this site is a great resource for a build like yours, the best way to make use of it is to use a search engine (like google) and include "site:www.yotatech.com" at the end of your search. High steer, motor swaps, lifts all of that have been covered hundreds of times and you will spend hours on here looking at different ways to do things. 1/2 the fun is studying and planning your build. Good luck!
Regarding the specifics of my build, i'm running a 7mge, not a 22r. you can see pics here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f198.../#post51848938
and for my front axle/steering i'll be making a custom width housing and running 4x4labs high steer: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f198...l#post52211553

I'm doing a Moab run this year that is for sure. It is also for sure that it will be after April 20th as that is when my vacation re ups at work. I'm leaning towards leaving May 23rd and coming home on the 30th or 31st. As that way I will only have to use 4 days of vacation because of having the 25th off for memorial day. That or doing something similar but instead in September with labor day. Maybe I can convince Ed to come along too? He could join the convoy in Ellensburg. What do you think Ed? Sound like fun? I will be bringing my club or at least those that can make it. Sure would be sweet to have a 1st gen party!

Yeah I'm thinking more and more now that the September trip would be a better idea. That way LOR can go in March and maybe be up to go again by September. Plus it would give me the extra time to throw some more money at my truck as well.

I like that idea...like maybe labor day weekend?

Yeah my thoughts exactly. That way we get a free day we wouldn't have to use vacation for. I would likely leave after work on the 4th or first thing on the morning of the 5th and stay through the week of the 6th through the 12th.

I'm well aware i'm going against the grain here, but here's my rant:
As an engineer, my first question with the aftermarket stuff is "why didn't toyota do this"? Its amazing how often the answer to that question saves me a ton of headache. Many aftermarket parts are helpful to achieve specific goals, ie lots of power at high rpms, but they almost always have drawbacks. for example, you can tune the crap out of an engine to get lots of power, but its not going to last very long. Factory spec usually finds a balance between performance, reliability, longevity, and of course cost. Some aftermarket parts, the most worthwhile ones, improve areas where the factory went with a cheaper part, rather than a better one. For exhaust, however, this is not the case. Car companies designed the exhaust size pretty well for each engine to optimizing power, fuel economy etc. Now, if you do some heavy modification to the engine, of course the stock exhaust is no longer sufficient, but simply putting a K&N air filter on with bigger exhaust isn't going to do much, and could even run worse at certain rpms. A large diameter exhaust results in a lower gas velocity and that is bad for multiple reasons. You want to find a balance between reducing restriction on exhaust, but keeping the gas velocity high. so for mine, i went with roughly the same diameter as stock, but i did mandrel bends and a high flow muffler. should flow a lot better than stock since there's relatively no restriction, but since i stayed 2" the gas velocity will be high.
I noticed a definite increase in low-end power, throttle response, and less heating issues with the engine when i went from 2.5" back to 2".
So to summarize: if you want more performance put in high-flow cats and mufflers, and maybe a header if yours is restrictive. i definitely would never recommend going more than 1 size bigger than stock exhaust diameter unless you've done some serious engine mods.

Hey Liveoffroad love you build pics ..I'm cruising your build and noticed the comments regarding the IPSV these are new to me As Landcruisers don't have them.. what was there purpose my project truck has them I just didn't question whether they could be removed .....what is required to bypass these ....also trying to see how you mounted your lower rear shocks ...Pickle.

I suppose its time for an update, After a couple months of going back and forth about it, i've decided to sell the Turbo 4runner. you can see the ad here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f108...runner-286506/
I was really liking the sound of a mild build, but I came to reality and realized i can't fund two projects, and i really want to finish my front axle project on the '84. I've been gathering parts for the project and now i'm just waiting on the '86 to sell so i can jump on the big money stuff like high steer and chromo axle shafts.
