Well I decided to Part out the 88 ex cab. So I figured that my runner needed some fenders. Plus one of my biggest issues was that since the fenders were cut, there was no way to attach factory inner fenderwells without modification. I didnt want to make something that was welded/fixed into place. And without them in there, everything was hammering the cab.
So here we are with New to me fenders and inner fenders.

Drivers side had a dent that I hit out with a mallet. I might do body work to it later on. Maybe.

Some of you might think that Im crazy but I am going to take the Doors off of the 88 SR5 and put them on my runner.
The main reasons are that I would rather not have power windows, (only a matter of time before they break), and The truck doors have the wing windows!!! (this is a big factor since I have no AC at the moment)
Ill try and get some more pics up as soon as I get the doors swapped over.

Hey Gizler00,
glad to hear you are going to keep the Runner, like I said 4Runners are my first choice. Sorry to hear about the 88 ext cab. I personally love these trucks during this time. I just love the 4runner more.
Well, I love power windows and would love to get them for my truck, but I myself hate to give up those wing windows. Loved them growing up driving back and forth on the turnpike down here back in the 80's, heck of breeze blowing through those and out the back. Only issue kind of hard to hear for a bit with all that air buzzing past your ear.
Awesome, engine build you got there.

The truck is going to good hands for sure though. It's really a great truck.
I'm trying to finish up the engine this week. I have been scrubbing the head for the last two days in the parts washer.

Got some parts in the mail today!!!!!
Engnbldr sent my valves and 268 cam for my engine build. I talked to Ted a few times and told him what my runner has and he suggested twice that I go with the 268.
So needless to say I'm pretty excited. I'm going to put in the new valve guide seals tomorrow followed by the valves and cam. I can't wait to see what how she runs with the .040 pistons, 268 cam, header, and 5.29's!!!!!
I'll get some pics up in the AM

Nice work on that motor. Your runner is pretty sweet and is coming along very nicely. I've been creepin on your build thread for awhile and thought I might as well subscribe and tell u to keep up the good work.

The fenders look good, the color is a close match too! Glad to hear you decided to keep the 4runner, Xcab's are nice too, but still not that roomy, especially if you have kids, that was the main deciding factor when I bought my 4runner, plus it's nice to go topless in the summer!

I would rather have the manual windows as well. Seems like electric windows eventually start to have problems and the manuals are easier to fix. I dont blame you there.
I hear you on getting the time to work on these trucks. Seems like everything keeps coming up and getting in the way of these builds.

Hopefully after Wednesday ill have more time. School gets out this Tuesday and our last work day is Wednesday. So I'll actually be able to go to the shop and work without distractions!!!! I have been cleaning a cyl head that I got from Chris (kornhuskerwizard) and getting ready to install new valves, seals, and the 268 engnbldr cam. Hoping it can get done soon. Then once I get that bolted on, I'm going to pull the engine out of the runner and send the injectors out to be cleaned. And while I'm waiting on that, I'm going to clean up all my EFI and maybe put the engine in so all I have to do is put injectors in and upper plenum in when everything comes back.
I really can't wait to see what it's going to drive like with the rebuild. It drives decent now but is a little tired and eats oil.

Engnbldr is a good guy, I have spent way to much money with him! I'd drive the old engine tell it dies! It will go longer than u think. My buddy got a 85 runner with 290k on it sat for 8 years he did an oil pump and gaskets and it now has 340k we call it the tractor! I keep asking him when he is going to put a motor in his pig and he says "when it dies" lol

Only reason I picked up the engine was because I got a smoking deal on it.

I was reading that it looked liked you were having problems on the tailgate with all of the safety on it. Here is what I found and works great for me. From the Key to the Ground, it bypasses all of those safetys.
Running a ground wire from this wire on the plug, the blue wire to the place on the pic below elminates a lot of problems.

Ground to center consloe mounting tab.

The ground wire bypasses the following safety switches. Cover Top and Door Lock Detections switch. Your window will roll up with top off. This is on Page 12-23 of the Haynes Manual where the key is to the botom of the page.
Haynes "L" for Blue, "R" for Red. Key is pointing to wire.
