I have finally finished reading you build this far Robb. It was very interesting to see all the glassing, I didn't know how useful such a technique was for repairs. You have given me many ideas to do with my little ute now too. Thanks

Thanks Oscar. My fiberglass repair skills are still on a steep learning curve.
I have another trekker top I used for the mock up when I bobbed the truck I think I am going to try to use to make a mini extended cab for this thing this winter.

thanks. the one major stumbing block on the half cab will be getting the back to seal around the 4 horizontal bars of the rear cage. There are some great seals at work I could use but not worth it to take them. Need to find a source online.

the half door project is a great one. I started with a crap door but was happy with how they turned out so I will run them for now.

Glad you found some good info in there Terry. I have not added much to it for awhile and to be honest kind of forgot about it..

i was going to try and lower the rear springs (pulling 1 or two from the pack) this week but it was just too stinking hot, hard to get motivated..

Stop hogging all the lights Robb, I need lights too.

Can you get us a wide shot of the beam spread, please?

Thanks dude.

I really like the LED bar setup.

I still need to get a set of round 4"s for my bumper. I thought about the LED type, but some folks were complaining that they just don't have the throw regular halogens or HIDs do. It seems that the light bars have a better setup then trying to retro fit the old school round lights with LED technology.

I understand the throw of the lights. My truck can't go that fast anyway and to me the big draw about LED's is the amount of light output with little amp draw.

I kind of want to get a 44" light bar for up top. it wouldn't get used too much but

Agreed, I would really like a 44" on top with some limb lifters tied into bumper from the light bar mount.

With the end of summer fast approaching i figured it was time to start extending my existing hatch using a donor hatch from a rolled SKy's Off Road Trekker

A little piece of Trekker History- Winnebago dated the fiberglass body pieces, my hatch was produced in june of 1981. The donor hatch was made in July of 1981.

It looks like either a different adhesive was used on the two hatches or a different guy made them- one has a ton of glue, the other not so much

You going to plate the back side? I'd try to plate and run some vertical ribs to keep flex to a minimum.
Looks great man

Thanks RBX. Yes inside will be braced. I do have a piece of diamond plate I am tempted to put on the outside.

Forgot to mention..it was weird that the orange hatch was 3/8" of an inch wider than my hatch..fiberglass was also thinner than the original. ?.

Robb,
It doesn't surprise me about the inconsistancies, those things were mostly handmade and quality control seemed to be non-existant ...that hatch could have been built/assembled by two different poeple, or the the same person (started the job as FNG, and then got better a month later, or worse a month later....'Peter, I'm gonna need you to come in on Saturday aaaannnnnnddd Sunday'...'I'd love to Lumberg, but I'm busy).

That makes sense. It just kind of surprised me the difference in width.

Thanks Yota

Got two layers of fiberglass on both sides. Hopefully get time over the weekend to finish it up.

I always liked the look of the black hood or tailgate on a colored truck. Definitely paint the hood. You could always plastidip it or a dip your car kit the hood. Easy prep and clean up.
The light bracket looks great, I am going to eventually build some limb lifters.

Rob, every time I see your truck, I get the notion to sing that old Manfred Man song: Blinded by the light. Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night...

But you know what I like most about your truck? The fact that it is never done! LOL You started this thread over 7 years ago and it's still going strong. I hope to have my truck "done" soon, but I have a feeling that I'll be constantly tweaking on it for years to come. Unfortunately, I'm not too sure how permissive my wife will be on that concept.
