Dropzone's 1981 Trekker Build-Up Thread

I was out drying the truck this afternoon and a guy stopped by and asked if I would consider selling. I said sure, $5500 and the truck was his. He would only go as high as $4k. So it is still sitting in the driveway. At least it was a cash offer and not some ragged out Cherokee that won't pass emissions.
Need to pay better attention to the forcast, first time this summer i didn't get the tarp on. It dumped last night, looks like more intermittent crap the next few days.

Drying the interior out sucks..

Looks the top goes back on soon.
Not bad though having it off for over 3 months

Didya grab ur OBA yet buddy? I'm kinda changing gears.... Doubting I'ma do a tank.... probably just a high output unit. ARB Twin or AZ OB2.... Something I can remove and take with me to other vehicles.
I know, I'm making myself nutter butter! Haha.... But, I think I'm on the right track just getting a really good compressor first. Then add things from there if I want. As long as it fills four 35's in under 5 Min
.... I'm good. Hahaha. Jk, how bout 10?

Not a big update but scored some rare trekker spare parts from a trekker that was rolled a few years ago

going to cut down and fill the window frames since the canopy windows I have are just a hair too narrow for the window openings. I figure some 1/4" lexan should do the trick.

Wow, just finished reading this whole thread. Looks awesome man.
The only trekker i have ever seen in person was sitting in a farm yard with a tree growing through the engine compartment... guy offered it to me for $500, wish i'd bought it now.
Keep at it, and don't be surprised if some of your ideas show up in my build.

pulled the truck into the garage for some front end work.
Went to go pick up a 30mm socket and saw Magnum drive by

Something about a 308 that I really like

Any way it was time to swap out steering boxes, my old one had a little play and a buddy of mine gave me a box off a 2nd Gen 4Runner he picked up to swap bodies on. Turned out having a section of frame made it easier to pull the steering arm off

Swapped the box and noticed a bleeder screw on it and had an aw ha moment
way easier to bleed air out of the system

I had ordered replacement front spring bushings, UPS said they were out on the truck for delivery so I thought might as well take the old ones out in prep..7:30 pm and it still shows out on the truck. .gee thanks..

After 6 years on the truck the old ones were pretty far gone. I wish Dave's Off Road had their Delrin Frame bushings in stock. $11 each but supposedly they help handling big time.

Got side tracked on my frontend work..though LROR finally sent the rest of my order..
my cut down windows have always had a slight leak that I couldn't track down even after attempting to reseal so going back to stock size trekker windows..I should have just reused my original windows. ..would've been the smart move $$wise.
Anyway.
Going from this-

cleaned up the new donor frames out of a rolled trekker

a lot of old sealant and crap came out

enlarged the window opening and test fit the frames

hopefully tomorrow I will have time to make a template and cut the lexan

Thanks.
well I bobbed the bed for a couple of reasons
a big one was that someone on another forum told me it would open a huge can of worms working with the fiberglass. .I took that as a challenge..it far from perfect but I am happy for the most part with how it came out. I figure I will flop the truck someday and it will either give me an excuse to put another cab on the frame or use the parts for the 3rd Gen X-cab I want to build some day.
another reason was I kept dragging the bumper on some trails I run so it was a good way to double my departure angle. It is now around 53*. Before it was about 25*

if I redid my bumper I could probably get it past 65* but dragging my butt hasn't been a problem since the bed was bobbed

Thanks guys. Progress is slow sometimes between family, 12 hours shifts and stuff at Church. I know you have been working on yours for a long time too. Almost burned out on this thing but it is still fun having something that people ask questions about what the heck it is etc...

So the window refit project has taken me forever...but today it is finally done. Fingers are crossed my leaks are cured.
I don't know
why I didn't noticed this before but evidently I got pretty close to a tree or rock on a recent trip..rain gutter is tweeked and a good stratch down the l/s of the roof.

got lucky I didn't fubar the fiberglass..
Window in and masked for touch up

Cleaned up and installed

I tinted the lexan with some rustoleum tail light tint as an experiment. .. not sure how I like it but stuck with for now...
