Airsoft bbs can be added to the wheels while leaving the weights on with no adverse affects(so I've read). Read lots of threads where guys added the bbs to see it it would help then removed a weight at a time till all weights were gone and just using bbs to balance. Think I might try that.
Have about 200 miles on this set, no issues. Still might do the airsoft. Bought all the stuff..

I used 1.25" flat stock on the inside of the bed to add some strength. Can't crank too hard on it but it will keep a cargo net and camping gear in place

Hopped in the truck sunday night and turned on my headlights. Thought WTH..everything works but the headlights. Fuses good, fusible link good etc. I wish I had taken a pick of the crappy soldering job I found hacked into the headlight circuit but I have headlights thanks to

So this is an idea I have had to slow down oxygen thieves for awhile.

Won't stop a determined individual but with a couple of my other anti theft deals it will slow them down..
Hard to drive in 2nd gear low range

Thanks, appreciate it. I actually have had the Grant removeable steering wheel for a couple of years.

So having a bobbed bed and a 35" spare isn't exactly a winning combination.
Needed a way to keep the tire more secure so the clamps I found on ebay and used for other mounting projects came tbrough again.

Saw one of these shift knobs that had been donated by Low Range Off Road to raise money for the Rubicon Trail Foundation and thought that is pretty dang cool

Those rollbar clamps look great! I did a search and found your original post with the link.

That's a fun shift knob.

I love LROR! I have ordered a lot of parts from them so far. Their hub lock shifter knob is pretty neat - the dial even turns as it should! Now, I have an idea for you... It would be cool if you could wire the dial in the hub so that when you turned the dial to the "unlocked" position it would disable the ignition. There's your next project!

[QUOTE=dropzone;51352966]the slowest transmission replacement in history continues but at least the POS is in the truck now...still have to put the duals back in and hook up all the misc crap but getting this far today gives me some motivation"

Can you explain the reasoning of why you say the l43 is a POS ive been beating the hell out of mine for the past 6 years the only issue ive had is when i bought it the previous owner installed the shifting forks wrong and constantly forced it into gear.

that would be a good idea, guess I could take the thing apart and see if contacts could be put in there...

they have come in pretty handy for stuff. I will probably use a set to make a shovel mount on my rear bumper.

well, I guess I kind of thought the reasoning would be fairly obvious so here you go;
a) L43 = 4 speed, L50/52= 5 speed
b) L43 side shift with a not so positive feel to the shift linkage:

-Toyota only used the side shifter for 2 years. To the best of my knowledge all their manuals (at least applied to truck transmisions) were top shift from 81 on. Must be some engineering reasoning for that.
L52 Top shift--better feel to the shift lever

c) gear ratios
L43 1st: 3.67, 2) 2.110, 3) 1.451, 4) 1.000 R) 4.180
L52 1st: 3.928, 2) 2.333, 3)1.451 , 4)1.000, 5)0.851 R)4.743

d) driving the truck on the highway with only 4th gear sucked, rpms too high, maybe it was because the L43 I had I only paid $125 or so off craigslist out of a rolled 80. I dunno.

Did my rear brakes yesterday.
I hadn't needed to pull the right rear drum off in the 6 years I have had the truck
Found this

Why take the time to drive in a pivot pin when a wobbly bolt will do

Gotta love previous owners

HAHAHA. ... Yep, they do some insane things. .... They are especially ridiculous when you realize that they've been that way for years... in other words it's not something that they just did in order to get it sold! lol

Pretty sweet red brake shoes! I like to paint mine too... prior to installing them under the drum... LOL

I'm going rear disc conversion and never looking back! Did it on my 2005 Tundra and loved it so my '83 Pickup is getting the same treatment. Rob, I'm surprised you haven't gone that route yet too

I actually have all the stuff to do the conversion using Sky's Off Road kit with a t/c ebrake been planning it for a long time just need to get the new axle bearings pressed on and coordinate with someone with better welding skills than I have for the new spring perches and shock mounts, will be going to an IFS width rear end. I should do some rear diff armor while I am at it.
One I get off my collective butt it won't take long at all to do. I should have done the t/c brake when I had the trans & t/c's out for the new clutch in the spring
