I didn't realize you had accumulated so many parts for the B4Runner. Hard to tell what's in those boxes. I'd like to see all those parts laid out and a good photo process of it all getting installed. I love a good pictorial of installs and mods. I'm jealous you have been hoarding parts.

Good luck with everything and Al wants to do it.

I thought about laying it all out, but it is all organized and ready to go.
It sucks that I am taking the lazy POS route on this by having someone else do the work though it means the truck will be on the road/trail sooner. I am hoping that Derek takes some progress pictures for me. I would love be taking pictures step by step, but this time around just not in the cards..

I would be afraid to drop off my truck at Al's, I don't think any of my parts would end up on my truck

The objective is to enjoy it when it's built.

We won't think any less of you Rob. In 6 months, we'll forget who did it....

I like the HI WATT LEDs and will be ordering some. Great find.

c'mon.... i'd be fair with the parts.... one for me, one for you. one for me, one for you.

hey, my shops finally all cleaned up, we can drag the SJ out and slide your trekker in for a couple weeks. just need to pick up a tank and some wire and you can go nuts with the welder.

don't worry about taking the quick way out, i've been thinking of doing it to my SJ. but hey, rumor has it i'm getting another jeep, and this one comes pre-built, ready for the trails! but i think that makes the 81 left for mall crawler abilities. i need to get my butt into gear with it... she's wanting to drive it now.

Trekker Needed a little help

Trekker got dropped off, but I was pretty dead from pushing the thing around so another trail rig helped getting the Trekker around:

This simple move makes me want a winch even more

Some Safety stuff arrived....

Since it looks like this thing will actually be getting wheeled soon (that is if I set up my rear diff correct when I did the Aussie install )
Figured that I was gonna need some safety items.
I rolled a bug 3 times and ended once, Flopped my old '84 and both times found that 2" belts just don't cut it.

Decided to go with these with 3" belts with an anti submarine belt (be in a car/truck upside down sometime and you will know why you want one )

For now the shoulder harnesses will be mounted to the floor after going over the head rest. My planned full cage will have a lower bar to mount them to.
These are not SCORE/NASCAR approved or anything like that...I would love to have that kind of rating but these were a decent price (not the 2 for $25 ones off ebay, these were midrange ones off ebay) I used to jump out of planes were a living and inspected the crap out of these things just like I would a jump harness, the stitching etc is very good one them...

A friend of mine is said he could make up a set of mounts (need 10) to the ones in the diagram below:

from what I have read it the proper way to mount them...keeps them out of the crap.and does not add a second wear point on the belt material like a surface mount would.. Will see how these work and than maybe find a set for the kids to use in the back seat...

i've used a 4-point in racing and in wheeling. loved it racing, but hated it when wheeling. i found myself dumping the shoulder belts just so i could navigate the cab well. but safety first if you're going to be running the tough stuff. though i've heard that if you ever need the 5th point, you'll wish it (or your nuts) wasn't there.

for your shoulder belts, i've heard lots of discussion on mounting points. you will want to mount them to a cross bar at shoulder hight, not on the floor. mounting them to the floor can cause spinal compression on impact, and that will screw you up bad!

on the side note: still looking for a place. found a decent rental in sherwood, but i can't get a return phone call to save my life. hoping post-holiday yeilds better results.

yeah there are pro's and con's to them. nice thing is that I can detach the antisub belt and shoulder harnesses easy and am maintaining the stock belts too. Plans are for a bar to be attached to the cage for belt mounting.

will see how they go...

Don't Mount the shoulder belts to the floor. Your better off just using the stock belt. But once you get the mid level bar installed, that'll make those belts worth it!

But won't a mid-level, belt bar make it difficult for the kids to get in the back? Being as it is only a 2 door.

Keep up the Great Posts and work! I look forward to seeing your completed build! : ) It looks GREAT So far!!

thanks for the feedback...as far as the mid level bar impeding rear access, looking at making it so it can be mounted in a pocket type fitting and removeable by pulling pins. it is something I had done on one of my old baja bugs, seemed to do the trick and stayed in place when I rolled that thing...gonna be a few months for the cage so I am sure a few ideas will come and a go

Very cool. There is a guy in my neighborhood with a manx knock off. I wish I had some pictures of my old bugs. Built 4 Bajas. First one was a 64 with a stock 1600 and a Johnny's Speed and Chrome half cage. Best one was a '67 with a Chenowith Full Cage, bus transaxle w/ gear reductions. For some reason I had 4 reverse gears and 1 forward when I put that transaxle together...something about putting the diff on the wrong side
Had a '55 Oval with working semaphores
Favorite was my '67 Karmann Ghia bought from the original owner...that gas heater was great during the winter. Stock V-Dub air cooled defroster sucks

I think I had 15-20 V-dubs over the years...Sold the last one, '64 Type 3 Notch back, 5 years ago....

just noticed that you traded the '92 LC...was that involved with the new Jeep?

ATV PERMIT ? never heard of it. I am assuming you have to have it to go off road. Here in the south we just go...
All the mod you are planning are awesome but will it not kill the value as that truck gets older and is considered an antique

dang man, sounds like you're a VW guy at heart!

yeah, the LC was traded for the new jeep. my buddy needed something that fit carseats better, i needed something i could thrash. the LC was too nice to beat up, so it worked out for both of us.

yep you could say that. I remember my first time building a v-dub engine. It ran like crap. My friend asked me if I line the time marks up on the crankshaft and cam gear...My reply 'Timing marks???'

good deal, as long as it works out for both of you. Sounds like you got the LC for a song...and now you could almost afford to drive one. gas is getting cheap again..

The transfer cases have been converted and rear suspension is going on now...for what he is charging me and having it done right I can't really complain about it taking a couple of weeks longer than expected plus with the low temps his shop is probably a little cold. Some of those parts were sitting on the work bench for over a year, few more days, no biggie.
might see about cruising down there monday to take a peak...
