Dropzone's 1981 Trekker Build-Up Thread

Thanks!
I headed down to Mt. Angel to see how Derek was doing on my truck..its been awhile but the price for what he is doing is worth the wait...He said I should be able to pick it up next week, we'll see but fingers are crossed.
he was just in the process of starting on the rear suspension when I showed up:

One of his other customers had a brand new set of 36x13.50 Iroks, I think that is the size I am gonna go with:

Transfer case picked up two more sticks. Rotating the input shaft and having the out put shaft turn 11 (2.28*4.7) times was a good feeling with the transfer cases in double low

The local U-Pull It's had a 50% off sale on all self service parts so for $50 I now have Matching front and rear seats:

These are out of a mid 90's montero, the front seats offer some more support (better side bolsters) and are as narrow as my old Integra seats so they should not interfere with the planned internal cage.
On the way back from Mt. Angel picked up some of the steel I will need to make the universal seat brackets work with the Montero seats. The stock Mitsubishi brackets would put the seat about 3" too high. Also in the pic is a set of heated seat inserts I hope to be able to make work, guess I am just getting old...but should make a winter wheeling run a little more pleasant

Where does one aquire a set of seat heaters? I live in northern BC in Canada. We have had well over 30 days of -30C and a lot of those days have had wind to boot. So seat heaters would be nice.

ran into a little snag: no spring bolts or bushings, either Trail-gear didn't include them or I misplaced them (probably the case
) so had to order them so 4 bolts and 8 bushings
should have'em in a couple of days...fingers are still crossed for a monday pick up...coming back on a trailer instead of the tow dolley this time

well, that monday passed...emailed to see if maybe I can pick the truck up this week..was waiting on the front drive shaft to come back
I was down a couple of weeks ago to check on it.
nothing big, but here is what you have left when 2 transfer cases become duals

between the donor case everything was in pretty good shape. i was worried about my $50 donor TC being junk but everything on the inside seemed to be good to go...
i am thinking about maybe finding an extra stock case and stock length rear drive shaft in case i every grenade anything...

Well I was finally able to head down to pick up the trekker. Took longer than expected but for what I paid for the amount of work I am very happy.
--All the bare metal has been cleaned and painted after the pics were taken..
What was accomplished:
-Rebuild front end, ARP studs, front aussie locker installed, FJ rotors and V-6 Calipers, front diff armor, truss and knuckle gusset kit
-dual cases 2.28 in front case, 4.7 in rear case and Front Range Off Road Twin stick, Bud Build crossmember..
-5" T-G rear springs installed
-Front Shaft lengthened and rear shaft shortened

I really like using axle strap tie downs vs. the chain binders I have used in the past hauling.
The truck sit a little high in the back, but T-G springs have a reputation of settling...if not I can pull a leaf:

Derek fabbed up a new upper rear shock mount:

Front end all done. I had some steering issues, turned out when I put the pitman arm on I was a few splines off...Derek fixed that:

Front shocks, hoops and bump stomps:

no backing plates:

Duals in:

I am very happy with Derek at Revenge Fab's work...need to take it on a shake down run. A little trip around the block everything seems to work.
Thanks for Brian at Wab-Fab for giving me some great deals on parts.
To do list before major wheeling trip:
-Change all gear box oil
-Tune up, fresh fuel filter and fresh gas: it has been sitting for over 8 months so
-install seats
-rubber boots around the shifters...might need to dog leg the front TC selector
Wish List:
-Longfield axles and hubrings
-5.29's
-36 or 37" Iroks
-full cage
probably gonna need an exhaust, do a manual proportioning valve to eliminate the LSPV and other misc stuff...but for the most part the major junk is done

2wd in double low I did not even feel it when I drove up over the fender of my trailer and destroyed it
