An Oregon Yotatech'er (sorry don't remember who) brought up fender flares a few weeks ago...sure enough saw another local wheeler pulled over, no flares, or mudflaps on 38's or some big hunk of rubber so took advantage of JC WHitney's labor sale sale and orders a roll of flexible rubber fender flares...not the greatest stuff certainly not Bushwacker quality but it was cheap and should serve the purpose:

It really looks great Robb. You didn't mention the awesome door panels when I talked to you. I like them a lot!

He isn't going to wheel that thing he is building. It's far too expensive a build to take it off road.

How do you like driving that thing with the mni mirrors on it?

Thanks Paul...Door Panels-moved some stuff in the garage and saw the diamond plate a friend gave me a couple of years ago, spur of the moment project

Mirrors? Truck has not moved in 3 months
with all the kitchen appliance back in the house I should be able to shove this POS back in the garage and swap transmissions etc soon...
The Rainy season is back

It's amazing what you can find when you start cleaning up the garage isn't it? I am sure I have a few things I have lost of forgotten about in my garage too.

side marker light

So I gave TrekkerPaul a call today to see if he had some spare side marker lights...he is looking for them too. I looked around for a similar set of lights to what Rowdy235 had found a couple of years ago.
Most 1st Gen owners know what I am talking about...you touch a 30 year old light and melt in your hand, my lenses are in awesome shape though:

didn't see one like Rowdy had found so I settled on this...:, they are a hair shorter than the stock lenses:

Matched up the sides, used the lense as a template on the drill press, allows me to use the stock mounting holes:

since the new light is open on the inside, filled the drilled hole with some silicon, than counter sunk the outside hole to allow for the screw head:

It is not quite the same, but is works...had to solder the leads on the back, too cheap to buy the pigtails

old one for comparison:

for about 8 bucks for both sides and half an hour or so I am happy with it and it can be replaced with stock housings if I ever find anyName: robb2.png

Just finished reading your build, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading through it. Its refreshing to see others who build on a budget, and your attention to the small details and ingenuity really stand out. I've been working on my 83' pickup for about 3 years now, and its not even close to where id like it to be, but its builds like yours that motivate me to keep plugging along and it will eventually get there. Keep up the good work!

thanks Al, they are the old fashion bulbs, but two of them are in each marker.
I will probably pick up the red led versions next week for the back, think they are about $10/each
Didn't want to ruin a couple of more expensive ones on an experiment..
for the $$$ and time involved I am happy with them...plus it is an easy

Your right it does look like the same color paint. I like you door panels and have been thinking about doing the same thing except with a non tread aluminum sheet. Did you use your old panels as templates? Also are you still able to put the window crank handle back on with the aluminum panels?

richf: I bet they work fine. The original door panels are 1/8" plus, so unless he was using the thick plate it should work fine. He got a window handle clip from me the other day, so I also assume he had at least one handle already installed.

RichF: the window cranks work fine with the Al diamond plate, it is pretty thin, no sure what gauge, but it is about 1/8" thick.

Al: I picked up the Red LED marker lights for the rear...found out something nice too--bullet connectors slip right on to them...not sure why I didn't try that on the front markers instead of soldering them...much easier connection

Wabbit--slowly getting there...need to get it pushed back into the garage and get the trans swapped and get this thing back on the road...

TrekkerPaul aka Paul came by today and dropped off a rear end for my disc brake conversion project...maybe next spring that part will be done...
Thanks Paul for the delivery:bikok:

Waiting around for him
decided to make myself useful and see about a possible conversion for my rear tail lights.
I know some of you would not get away from the traditional 1st gen tail lights, but I seem to either break them or they have been stolen (Lense 2x's in 3 years)

anyway cut out a section of a rolled 1st Gen 4Runner roof my wife has been wondering about for a year or so:

it kind of has a nice curve that might come in handy
the roof is from a rolled 4Runner...not sure if this is from the accident or some form of adhesive used for the head liner

took a little time to trim it to fit (rough) and put an LED light in there:

like said before, not a done deal but am kind of leaning towards this...lower amp draw, easier to fix, just would need a trailer light adapter to allow for the turn signal..

OK more on my lighting dilemma...go with the red lenses or the clear lenses...my wife doesn't like the clear (whoopy doo right)
I thought with more LED's they would put out more light:
tail light, 4 come one:

brake light:

brake light output:

red lense w/ 6 LED:

brake light:

6 LED brakelight output:

so I am gonna do this LED conversion...which one do you guys think?
Red or Clear?

seems like from an output standpoint the 6 LED has more...
