The OFFICIAL IFS "What size tire will fit" thread
#401
I have the Sonoran Steel System 7.2 Suspension on my 2002 4Runner -
About: 2.5" Front & 3" Rear.
http://www.sonoransteel.com/index.ph...&products_id=4
I currently have on the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO Tires 265/75R16.
My question is can i go up to the next size BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM 255/85/16?
Will they fit without any rubbing? I live in PA and wheel spacers are illegal. I have attached a few photos with my current tires.
With 255/85/16 tires can i get away without re-gearing?
Some photos of my current tires and the space i have right now -

Thanks!

Best answer is to measure and see on the tire fitment:
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...it.shtml#FAQ10
As noted, make up a little measuring block out of a scrap of wood or cardboard. The size will be 1/2 the added tire height and 1/2 the added tire width over what you now have. Why the 1/2 factor? Well tire diameter is twice the radius or distance from the center to the outside. So half the added height is below the axle and half above. Same idea on the width, half the added width is on the inside of the tire and half on the outside, measured off the wheel center line.
With block in hand, move it all over the face of the tread, edge to edge and find where the tight spots are with the fender and wheel well. For the front tires, try turning the wheels side to side and find the worst case condition with the edges of the tread the the wheel well and fender. And finally, try to flex the suspension by driving up on a curb or some ramps and turn the wheels to get an idea where rubbing might occur, if any. If you find adequate clearance all around, you should probably be fine with the new tires. If there is some minor rubbing, this may or may not be an issue, depending on the new tire and how true to size it is and even what it's shape is when mounted on your wheels. Some minor rubbing might be solved by doing some trimming/bending inside the wheel well, most often this involves the standing seam where the firewall and fender join in the back of the front wheel well. This is behind the plastic liner and is easily hammered flat to gain extra clearance.

Has Toyota ever changed their wheel lug pattern? Specifically what I am looking at is buying a set of wheels and tires off a newer tacoma and wondering if they will bolt right on my 88 pickup. The tire size is confirmed to fit, it is just the wheel I want to make sure of. The purchase would be across country so I don't have the luxury of looking at them first.
Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

Good rule of thumb is to maintain close to stock b/s:

Too much b/s and wheel hits suspension/steering/brakes/frame, too little and you push the tire out too far and increase likely hood of rubbing on the fender while turning.

Yet another fitment thread - Biggest Tires w/ 16x8 3.5" BS + 3-inch Lift?
Hey guys,
I've done quite a bit of searching both here and at T4R and I believe I answered my question, but wanted to check with the experts.
Truck:
'01 Sport with OEM Sport/Limited flares
Suspension:
ToyTec Ultimate Lift with OME 890 rear coils.
Wheels:
16x8.0 -25 offset (3.5" backspacing).
Tires:
Based on what I've read, I'm trying to stay away from Load Range Es, so I'm down to a few choices... I put my assessment underneath each tire - PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong.
1. BFG All-Terrain T/A KO in 285/75R16
- Known good fitment
2. BFG All-Terrain T/A KO in 295/75R16
- Should fit based on feedback that I've received due to my lower backspacing/offset.
3. BFG Mud-Terrain T/A KM2s in 305/70R16
- Will rub without a body lift. In general, this tire would require modifications to the pinch weld(s) and fender flares. I didn't see anything specific as to whether or not the front and rear bumpers would rub.
I'd love to go with Tire #3, but not at the expense of hacking up my truck. I've done that enough with the fenders on my cars.
Thanks!!!

i have a 91 pickup have had as big as 33/12.50/15s or 31/13.50/15s on it no problem at all. im looking to get some new wheels and tires thinking the bfg wanglers 35/13.50/20s. i have a 3" body lift and going to crank up the front as high as i can and level the truck with blocks in the rear. should the 35/13.50/20s on 20x10s b/s 4.79 offset -18 fit?

But that is a pretty wide wheel/tire combo and width is as much of an issue as height. A buddy of mine had a '92 pickup w/ 4" bracket lift and needed to add a 2" body lift on top of that to clear 35x12.50s on 8" rims.

nevermind the 35s. i have 08 tundra stock wheels im going to try to put on. they are 18x9s b/s is 7", will those clear im geussing the adapter will be 1" spacer too. then 31x10.50x18 toyo a/t. i already ordered 14" 150lbs coils for the zuk mod.
#417
adapters are expensive! drop that plan, got a set of 36x12.50"s that im going to try to get on the truck. i have 3 inch body lift and 14" 150lbs springs for the zuk mod and cranking the torsion bars way up. what do you think about the tires fitting?

I have a 98 stock 4runner 4wd SR5and have the opportunity to buy some wheels and tires off a 2007 tacoma, these are the tires, 265/70/r17 BF Goodrich All terrain, will they fit with out having to have a other work done such as spacers or anything?
