The bilsteins and sliders came in today. After the first one I realized it is much easier to put the bottom bolt in before the top. On a side not I need some serious help. I havent finished it yet and im already looking at nitrous kits for it. I have heard these motors will safely hold a 200 shot. I wonder what a toy rear will look like with 325 hp plus a 200 shot of nitrous.

The bilsteins are mounted. They made a huge difference. before them you sit in it an rock side to side and it would feel like it was going to rurn over now it will barely sway. I am picking up the locker and hubs for the front tomorrow then all i will need is the front driveshaft and the rear locker. I cant wait to put this thing to the test and see what it will really do.

I learned a few thing today while installing the locker and gears. Jeep Rubicon gears use a different size bolt than regular d44's and require the carrier to be drilled before they will work. When installing a lock right make sure you put in the spacers before the springs. If you think it is a pita to put the springs in it is twice as bad having to take them out and put them back in. So my locker and gear install they say should take about an hour ended up taking 4 hours.

Took it for the first on the road test drive today. It drove much better than i expected. I was expecting a lot of body roll but it actuall felt very stable. It was easily controlable (atleast until it ran out of powersteering fluid). I also got one of the sliders done and spread with bed liner. On my test drive today I went by a friends house where he was working on this car. Im not a mustang person but that car is the mosst awesome car i have ever seen.

Yes that one is twin turbo but the one he has is the new model that has a HUGE supercharger on it. The rear wing looks really good in person. If I had the money ($200k) I would have one of those cars.

I agree that given that motor's success it is a puzzle why GM is so married to the OHV design. There is however a simple answer, cost. The LT5 was incredibly expensive to produce and I don't think that architecture would have fit in the price goals that Chevy had for the C5. If you remember the C5 started out much less expensive than the C4 and even a Z06 undercut a ZR-1. The LS1 did provide a better platform as an engine that could be adapted for different uses and different vehicle

I have seen this engine used in a couple of wild projects (a '58 vette and a '30's Willy's pickup both on ZR-1 chassis). It is an amazing piece of engineering and it is unfortunate that it did not have a bigger impact on the future direction of GM.
Wow, lots of vette people on here. True the LT5 was co-designed with chevy engeneers and Lotus, and built by mercury Marine in Oklahoma. The LT5 later models had the same HP rating as the LS6 (02-04) at 405hp. And while its true the will pull hard at the top end, they will also run out of top end before the Z06. Not to mention that as soon as you put a corner on the the road the ZR1 will have a hard time catching back up to the Z..ie..not gonna happen. I believe the main reason for them not using it anymore is man. costs as well as maint costs. The good ol push rods are reliable and cheap to work on/easy to modify internally. Not too many people pulling apart DOHC motors for cam swaps etc. but thats my $.02.

As for the OP...Thats just freaking rediculous....I love it!

Got the rear locker installed. Toyota axles are much easier to work on than dana's. The front took most of the day but the rear only took about an hour. Ill try to get some updated pics tomorrow.

This thing drives completely different with the rear locker. It is still easy to drive but it feels like you are going sideways through turns. I didnt notice mush clicking or any other odd noises. It may be because it has 140w oil in it and it is 32 degrees.

why run a 12bolt in the rear? from everything that I have heard it is weaker than the toyota especially the v6 toy rear. Just asking for my own information.
