LS1 into 2nd gen 4Runner ayone?
Has anyone put a LS1 into a 2nd gen 4Runner? I am planning on starintg mine in the next few weeks and was wondering what kind of problems I will run into.

A guy down the street from me swapped a LS1 into an older Chevy S-10. It looks like it came from the factory that way and his truck HAULS ass.
Be sure to document and take lots of pictures if you do this cause you'll probably be the first one.

I will be using a th350/np205 to save those headaches and more than likely I will end up with a 5.3 to save a little money. I would like to have a 408 stroker in it but that is going in my 2wd blazer.

but just think of how much fun it would be to have 600-900 hp from a 408 stroker in a 2nd gen toy!!
for those that arent familiar with a LS1 stroked and BUILT, with even a mild cam will knock out 500+ hp. Then since its BUILT properly, you can throw a 300 wet shot on it for those moments when the wild hair takes over!

Yeah LS is an awsome platform. Before my Yota I was a big chevy guy and used to snarl at the SBC vs LS platform comparison. A stock internal, bolt on LS1 will lay down 12.99999s on street tires with a W56 good clutch and a good driver behind it.

There's a few people doing 2JZ-TE swaps, and the stock block can supposedly handle 1400 horsepower, but then you're talking big bucks.

ls1 or another option is the 6.0 lQ9 iron block, which is the same damn thing and is found in all the 6.0L gm trucks, cams wiring harness are interchangeable with an ls1 theres a lot of parts for them, i wouldnt mess with a supra motor or any other toyota unless it was a 3.4 if ur looking for power, it would help to tell us what transmission u plan on using

The ZR1 is the one true automotive miracle coming out of the early 90s, when most manufacturers were going for economy. It is also the one GM engine prior to the Gen III/IV smallbock where they actually pulled their heads out of their proverbial arses! The LT5 was only availble in the 1990-1996(?) Corvette ZR-1 package for the C4 corvette. (Normal C4 vettes had the L98.) Just under 7000 were made in all years. The LT5 is a 32v, 4OHC engine, with 16 injectors and 16 intake runners feeding teh cylinder heads. The engine has a VERY lumpy idle stock and has an operational redline of 7200rpm! What's even better is that this engine wakes up at 3000+ and up even more than the LS1/LS6/LS2 do!
The LT5 carried 2 hp ratings, the first of 385 for the first 3(?) years then 405 in the last 3. However the actual dynos of the engines have them doing quite a bit over 400hp, yeilding approx 370+ rwhp. Later years dynoed slightly higher still. Why GM kept doing the pushrod crap still bugs me, BUT the for being pushrod the LS engines are damn good. Now why the LT5 was supplanted by the LT1 i have NO idea. Inferior design, horrible power curve, limited rpm, almost 100hp less, and a completely weaker engine...ugg
A well off individual compared his LS6 powered Z06 (405hp) vette to his LT5 powered ZR1 (also 405hp). He said that hte Z06 would gain the upper hand on the launch, but once the speed started to build the ZR1 would pull away from the Z06 hard. Iirc he stated something to the effect that the ZR1 pulls to 160+ like the Z06 pulls to 100+ He also stated that the LS1 bottom end will support up to about 550-600 hp before things need to be changed out for forged. He stated the LT5 on the other hand is quite stable up to 800+ hp on the bottom end. That to me is huge and is 2jz kinda overbuilding territory.
there is a ZR1 '90 vette near me with 25000 miles on the clock, all documentation and immaculate. They want 29,000 for it. I made the mistake of taking it for a test drive....if I only had 29k to my name, I'd be a broke man with a fast corvette and a HUGE grin. I also now suffer from corvette fever! lol
ZR1 c4's are tough to spot around town unless you know what to look for. The tail is convex instead of concave, and the hatch area and "trunk" area of the hatch is a few inches longer. Also you'll notice the HUGE rear tires, that the normal L98 c4's didnt have...
