Oh yeah, I forgot about the distributor being in the front....meaning it does "technically" have a funky flat distributor on the front(I owned a 94 Formula w/ an LT1) but I was thinkin about the older carbed versions.

Sounds like you've got some great ideas....did you say that the blazer has/had a 6.5 diesel in it? I'd like to see one of those crammed in there! LoL

 

Believe me I thought about it. BUt from what I have read those arent very powerful and Im sure it would be a mess to mount.

 

Yours looks better than mine, and appears to be an ls2. I wish I could afford one of those but I will stick with the lm7 for now.

 

That's the LS1 in my '04 GTO. I painted the fuel rail covers myself.

Ahhh, the GTO- the poor man's Corvette as many have deemed it. This is completely off-topic, but is it a 6 speed? God this makes me wish I had my 94 Firebird Formula back soooo bad. Too bad someone was willing to take my life over it while I was in ATL.

Another off-topic note- I think if I were going to go with a GM motor and try to keep a lower budget I'd take the 4.3 route myself- but you gotta love those V-8's

BTW, does the LS1 or 2 have the distributor I mentioned like the LT1 has? It's a really funky shaped piece on the front of the motor that doesn't even resemble a distributor at all-much less a distributor cap.

 

Oh I forgot the 04's had ls1's. I would love to have one of those cars or the new G8. That thing is going to be awesome.

 

It doesnt have any distributor. It uses one coil per plug with a crank senosr to fire them. I dont know much about the system but it seems to work.

 

Yeah it has the T56 6-speed. I wasn't going to buy one if I couldn't get the manual lol. The dealer kept trying to sell me an automatic but I wasn't going to budge.

I still dont have any more pics but I got the paasenger side motor mount made. I seems like the stock passenger side motor mount is 1/2" further forward that the drivers side, so it is going to require some modification. But the good news for the day is the hood now fits and closes.

 

Finally got some pictures. Heres where im at now:

 

looks like you put a body lift on or somthing. Its gonna be such a spleeper

 

no body lift yet. That is the stock chevy mounts cut in half with the stock yota mounts bolted to the bottom of them. Almost a perfect fit.

 

What does the bell housing bolt pattern look like on that 5.3? I have plans to do a V8 swap as well but wanted to retain my yota 5 speed tranny.

 

the LT-1 distributer is called optispark aka Opti Puke good torque motor but i would take an ls style motor any day great project and what I was thinking about doing any pictures of underneath how the mounts look and clearances??

Excellent explanation on the LT5 from Bumpin' Yota. Also it is significant that the engine was actually a Mercruiser piece. It was almost a one-off. I agree that given that motor's success it is a puzzle why GM is so married to the OHV design. There is however a simple answer, cost. The LT5 was incredibly expensive to produce and I don't think that architecture would have fit in the price goals that Chevy had for the C5. If you remember the C5 started out much less expensive than the C4 and even a Z06 undercut a ZR-1. The LS1 did provide a better platform as an engine that could be adapted for different uses and different vehicle

I have seen this engine used in a couple of wild projects (a '58 vette and a '30's Willy's pickup both on ZR-1 chassis). It is an amazing piece of engineering and it is unfortunate that it did not have a bigger impact on the future direction of GM.

 

It is the smae as all gm v8's, it is just missing one bolt hole.

 

Good to know, I was just trying to see if the traditional Advance Adapters chevy 350 to yota bell housing would work on these newer engines.

I asume the LS1 has the same bell housing pattern as well?

I'd love to do that swap. I think I have it about 10 times easier in that I have a 2wd.
