No, that would be nice. I do have the BR-3 scan tool and my laptop will do virtual gauges but I don't always drive with my laptop connected to the OBDII unless I'm tuning or testing something.

I'm waiting on the paint to dry on the new bumper grill cover so expect an update on that soon. Here's a sneak preview with the winch in place:

I got it to where I can bolt the winch in place and connect the wining in about 5 minutes:

The skid plate is painted and on now:

Sweet, going to look great.

Yeah, driving with the lap-top is a no-go... The SG is very nice, and shows some cool stuff.

Ok the grill is done:

And I can go from this:

To this in less than 10 minutes, including power connetions:

I took my first long trip yesterday and only averaged about 14 mpg going about 75mph most of the highway miles. I am seeing the ECU drop into open loop a lot and of course it runs richer in open loop hurting the MPG. It goes into open loop at 75 mph with just the slightest hill. Not sure why its doing that and its bothering me. I'm wondering if it may be the A/F ratio calabrator doing that as a way to control the A/F ratio in low boost areas of the map. Maybe it can't really control the A/F ratio in closed loop so it forces the ECU into open loop to control it that way. Of course I can adjust the ratio on the FTC map but it would be nice to know why its doing that.

With the high temp yesterday 75 degrees F, the radiator fan bearly ran at highway speeds and the coolant temp stayed pretty steady at 200 F. Oil temp was steady at about 215 F, ATF was a cool 150 F and all the cooling fans were off most of the time except when I got back into slower city driving.

I wouldn't ever expect the radiator fan(s) to run at highway speed.
If they ever do that certainly points to a cooling problem, though you already know of that problem

you do realize that the fan increases air flow EVEN at highway speeds by creating and even lower pressure area directly behind the radiator???

Dale
Who made your bumper im sure its here some where but im feeling lazy tonight.

Possible, however it's only limited and the air has to have someplace to go.

First, the fan will/should only come on because of the monitored temp.
If it comes on then the temps too high. Simple enough concept.

If the temp is too high with that much air flow, then we have some pretty serious problem in the cooling system somewhere. Again, pretty simple concept.

If there is no where for the air to go to start with, that is an "air escape" then the fan being on doesn't help a bit. (In racing this can cause a pretty serious problem out side of the cooling issue and that is it reduces the downward force on the front end by trying to force air out from under the front side of the vehicle, thus "lifting" or de-weighting the front, however this is a another story in and of itself).

Lack of "air escape" can, in and of itself, be a "serious problem in the cooling" system (I'm talking about highway speeds btw).

Thanks Brian, ok but it will be next summer at the earliest before I know. It looks like the Mark VIII fan will possibly fit with my aluiminum radiator since its thinner but I doubt it will fit with the thick stock 3VZ 3-row copper/brass radiator, at least not with the fake water pump shaft on there. But I don't know why I was telling you that since you have a newer 4runner anyway. Maybe someone wants to know.

ROFL reading this post is like getting an insight into your thgouht process:

- Brian likes electric fans, thats why he wants to buy it
- but maybe he just wants to put a bigger one in his 4Runner because he likes overkill
- but thats wierd since I just said a few posts ago it will be tough to fit in with a stock radiator
- why oh why would he want a second fan then?
- does he want to make a turbo shop fan?
- does he want to make a supercharged refrigerator?
- oh never mind, duh

One way or another, the offer stands, until I get impatient and buy one

Looking good.

I fixed that problem Wabbit, they are all 600 pixel pics now. But yet you still have the option of clicking them and blowing them up to full size through webshots.

I think thats how toyota does it... my 4.0 in my taco did the same thing, drove me nuts... so I just stopped watching the loop status.

Very interesting, I wish I'd run this engine a little more when it was stock just to see how the stock tune was set. Thanks for the info.

do you remember what size drill bit you used? did you drill a pilot hole? were you able to eyeball the angle, or did you have the ors guide?
