Question Instructions to Mechanic to Get Daytime Running Lights (DRL) on 1995 Pickup

Hi everyone. I'm moving back to Canada and I want to import my 1995 Pickup 2WD 4-cyl DLX single cab. It's the US model, so it doesn't have daytime running lights (DRL). DRL are required in Canada. From googling a bit online, it seems like a pretty easy modification to satisfy the Motor Vehicle Act requirements - basically using the turn signals as DRLs. My local mechanic said he'd never done it before, unfortunately. Has anyone done this before, can you recommend a kit, or can you tell me what specific instructions I could give to a mechanic to do the mod for me?

Thanks,
JF

My plan right now is to get a Canadian friend to buy this and ship it to me in the US: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/0204001.html . I couldn't find any other vendor, and Canadian Tire doesn't ship outside of Canada. My local mechanic agreed it sounds simple and can probably do it same-day.

If anyone has better suggestions, I'd be happy to hear 'em.

A quick look says that vehicles imported into Canada, more than 15 years old do not have to comply. Not so????

Might have to run with headlights on in daylight is all.

If you're willing to do a little wiring, you might consider this gadget: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/DRL-...832257840.html You don't want to just wire the headlights into the accessory circuit, as that could pull more current than you want when you're trying to start the truck. (It gets cold in Canada, eh?) Toyota stock monitors the ALT light; when the alternator is producing power, a relay is closed.

The $2 gadget does it slightly differently. You hook it up to an always-on circuit, and when it rises above 13v or so (which means the alternator is producing power), the box applies 12v to the output wire. Unfortunately, you'll need another simple cheap relay, as Toyota light switches switch ground, not battery. The relay can take care of that easily.

Your choice.

Thanks scope. I forgot to close this thread by saying that I went through with my plan of getting a buddy to mail me the Canadian Tire DRL Kit from Alpena. The local mechanic had no trouble installing it.
