Fog Lights & Daytime Running Lights

Fog Lights & Daytime Running Lights
Has anybody done any re-wiring to get the daylight running lights on the 2002 4Runners to go away? I am also looking to have the fog lights on when just the parking lights are on, not just the headlights.
Any ideas?

I don't think that it's against the law. I have seen police officers and everybody else doing it for my entire life.
I do not light daytime running lights. It's just a personal opinion of mine. The law does not state that cars must have them, so why do they assume that everybody wants them.

I think it's one of those driving laws (in some states) that we learn to get a license, then forget about. Like the bozos that use the turn signal when they start the turn, not 200 feet (or whatever the distance is....see!!) prior to turning.

To be honest with you, I think if its not law, it should be. While not as important in the city, I do alot of single lane highway driving where you have to be able to pass with on coming traffic. Running lights make being able to judge distance of on comming traffic a lot safer. I have 15/20 vision and autos with out running lights are hard to see at a distance, not to mention difficult to judge how far they are intill there alot closer then autos with running lights. When it rains( or snows) during the day, its intresting to see how many people forget to turn on there head lights. Its just as intresting to see them pop up out of no where, during these conditions also.
To me its just a smart safty feature, and i see the benifit of it. Not only is it safer for the driver but also other drivers. But hay, some people argued that seat belts werent important at one time too..

I don't like daytime running lights. I am a smart guy, I know when it is no longer bright enough out to drive without headlights. To me, that ranks up there with the blinking third brake light. Now *that* drives me nutty.

I am not going to say anything about the safety involved. I really just don't like the way that they look and think that people should be able to choose between using them and not using them.
So, back to my original question .... does anybody know how to disable them and how to make the fog lights come on with the parking lights?

cybrenergy,
I think found the site that deals with disabling DRLs
I'm still trying to search on your second inquiry "how to make the fog lights come on with the parking lights?" , I've seen a thread/write-up of this somewhere, I'll post it once I find it.

Here is the article on disabling the 4Runner (and other Toyota's) DRLs. http://www.tacomaterritory.com/~faqs...t/dsabldrl.htm
It looks a little complicated. But, based on the same site, I may be able to go into the dealership and get them to disable them for free.
Maybe I can make up some crazy story about my neighborhood being full of light-sensitive old people or something?!?!

The fog light mod write up is here. Under the Additions 2 section. It works great. A side effect I found out later, is my fogs flash when I arm or disarm my alarm cause this ties them into the parking light circuit instead of the low beams circuit. It really comes in handy for finding the thing in a parking lot at night, I can just look for the real bright flash.
And of course, I still have the option of just turning them off at the switch on the steering column.

that blinking third brake is THE DUMBEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! i saw one of those the other day, and if i was driving, i would have been so distracted by it i would have run into the (FORD explorer, i think it was) in front of us.
the daytime running lights i like. makes it a lot easier to see when someone is coming. but you should be able to turn them off. sometimes, if you want to be stealthy, you cant, because of the headlights.
you could probably rig up an in-dash switch for them, if you wanted to.

You don't actually cut any factory wires in that mod, you just make a litte jumper wire to pull the power from the parking lights. And if you are worred about the relay, you can pick up a new one at any autoparts store. Actually, just got get an extra and mod the new one and put the original in the glove box.
sleepy1405 - Only to annoy the driver in front of you. But lots of vehicles are coming that way from the factory now a days. At least I see a ton of them on the road around here.

Maybe I will give it a shot this weekend (the fog light mod).
Being the "wussy" that I seem to be (not ususal for me) when it comes to making some of these mods, I think that there is a good opportunity for somebody here to do some of these things and sell them for a very small profit. This particular mod (fog lights) is not a good example, but I can think of a few that would be.
For instance, I am sure it would be easy for somebody to make those deckplate airbox mods and sell them put together. I know how cheap the deckplate and other materials are, I am sure that piece of the airbox is just as cheap from Toyota. By purchasing the entire kit, already put together, it would allow somebody to have the stock piece available incase they ever wanted to put it back on.
What do you all think about that? Anybody willing to make the kit and re-sell it?
