nothing anymore!!..... but read
THE GOOD:
i bought my 89 P/U (3vze) a couple months ago because the body was in great shape...not one speck of rust, no dents, clean undercarriage, perfect interior, etc.. i called the guy ASAP because there were a few other people looking at it. i diddnt even bother giving her a test drive and i gave the guy his asking price($1495) seemed to be a steal!!! but on my way home with her i found out alot about buying a used truck(im only 16 lol).... oh yeah odometer read 178,xxx when i bought it!!

THE BADD!!:
drove home with no first gear and grinding 2nd 3rd and 4th gears (no reverse)
terrible clutch
shot idler and pitman arm
bad ball joint
holes galore in the muffler(i knew about that though)
i finally got home and found a sticker hidden under vin saying a used odometer was put in and actual mileage was 233,000(that was 30,000 miles ago) haha i felt soo ripped off .... but i was determined to keep her....

NOW:
Today i just got her finished up..... (untill i get a 3.4 when i get another job!)
a few weeks ago i got a deal on a new trans and clutch($1100) with labor
today i got my whole front end done, alignment, and sweet flow masters!! i got a nice deal on that too....$600 for all

everything turned out alright. im glad i kept it because i think 3200 isnt a bad price for what is now a great truck!! even with 260,000 miles on it it runs pretty good (for a 3vze).....

- i busted the lock on the sunroof switch last summer so i took that out and it no longer needs a lock to close
-little rock chips in rocker panels and mutliple other spots (roof, hood, mirrors) i plan on putting herculiner on the rockers this Christmas
- have to sit on tailgate to put it down (i think it has some sand in it too)
- power antennae stopped working so i took it out and made my own.
- splash guard is torn about halfway up on front right wheel well
- hitch needs painted
- kickers in front sound like crap
- runs at 3k rpm at 65 mph
- tie downs in back are bent so much that you can just slide them out
- plastic sides in back have some really deep scratches in them

thats pretty much it as far as i can think of. i have a friend whose dad owns a couple junkyards in town and i need to see if they have any 2nd gen runners that i can strip out and swap parts with. but of course i don't expect to find many toyotas in a junkyard

Both axles. Boots are torn, CV Boot grease all over the place!

Fuel Door is missing.

Fender trim next to fuel door bent.

Driver's side visor wont stay up!

AC not working.

Need new tires. Maybe I'll go to a Toyota Dealership and get some take offs with wheels from a newer 4Runner!

Lacking power in the engine, I know it has to do with the stock intake.

1993 4Runner 203,000 miles 50k on the rebuilt engine

On my 86 toy I had to replace the 22re because it developed an oil leak, and upon inspection, I found two cracks going up the block from the oil pan. One on each side of the block about 3 inches in from where the bellhousing bolts on. Kinda strange when I hardly go off road with it, and its never been jumped in the 6 years I have owned it. Replaced it first with a 22ret then replaced that with a V8

I found more stuff...
(wiring) redneck wiring job to the battery. All my aux. crap is wired directly to the battery posts. MJF makes a 12 port wiring harness board for everything to make it clean and safe with one 8 gauge wire going to the battery pos.
Upper control arm bushings They make a horrible racket but I have solved that problem. SAS! I cant wait to cut that #&@! OUT OF THERE.
Rear third re-gear with 4.88's and an Aussie
Damn door rubber trim seal crap.
My horn sounds like a wounded seagull.

I love this thread.. It's perfect for venting!

Quote: Transmission (only 4th gear works).
Stopped by the transmission shop today. They were just about to drop the gearbox, everything else was disconnected and it was strapped to a tranny jack.

No metal shavings, very little oil came out when they drained it. They're guessing that the bearings gave out and dropped the shaft.

Shame on me for not checking the oil levels everywhere before driving it home. sheesh.

My rear window works with the consol switch. However, it will not work with the key-switch in the back. I have replaced the plastic switch. Any suggestions? Is this a relay problem?
