With 37's and 4:10's forget driving it in high range...
And the funny thing about gears is, they work the same if you go higher or lower... That is to say, if your high range is higher your low range will be higher.
So say goodbye to any low and slow you have now.
And checkit! It's a Pirate thread...
37" MTR's NO LIFT! Will I build it?
Wait, that's not the one... Let me see if I can find it.

I have 37's and 4:10's but I'm sfa so I don't have to worry about cv axles and hat not I can pull a 7% grade at around 50mph I do it weekly highway I do about 70 on flat but wind effects me alot I have no clutch problems. And I stop fine but I will go to 5.29's soon just for the added power

I just took my Runner from 35x12.50's that it had on when I bought it down to a new set of 33x12.50's. Its made such a huge difference I cant even tell you. I would stay a bit smaller, just my opinion...

37's no lift, no body work? Yeah right! I don't think so...

the guy that everyone is referring to has a "gold color" 4runner, and is running 37" MTR's (old style, not kevlars) and he is actually Solid Front Axle (1984 or 1985 4runner)
all he did was basically cut the hell out of his fenders.
9" of lift is achievable...there used to be some 6" bracket Lifts around...so 6" bracket lift..plus 3" body lift.....
or he could have a 4" bracket lift, 3" body lift, 1.5" bj spacers and a small crank on the torsions and a longer set of shackles in the rear.

the whole point of that article is 5.71's being STRONGER (or JUST AS STRONG) as the stock 4.10's.
could have the 5.71's chryo'd? then you could have better highway manners, and stronger gears, plus an even lower low.

Just read the link in th hospital on my iPhone sorry but anyways I know a guy ruiing a 22r with 5.71's he says he loves the torque but he breaks them quite a bit and said he would reccomend 5.29's and he rubs 38's. So Im just gunna trust his expeirences

Also considering 4.88's are the actual proper gearing for a 22re on 35's if you do the mathematical equation then 5.29's would be proper for 37's or close anyhow sorry for threadjackin OP

that's true Vance!
but most people are looking for the extra torque so they go a little "overboard" if you will.
whenever i do my motor swap in a year or two, i'll probably run 4.88's and 35's..or 5.29's and 36's or 37's.

he has them professionaly installed it's just that they create too much torque don't get me wrong he loves them just he knows they will break and it's not a strength issue in my eyes just something bound to happen I mean I'm sure a 4.10 or 5.29 ring gear would have the same amount of trouble holding up to the torque created by the 5.71 Sorry not trying to argue just stating my opinnion

In 8" 4cly diffs, V6 diffs or 7.5" IFS fronts?
This is how rumors get started...
And yeah, compound reduction is compound reduction... You can never really eliminate a weak link.
Only question is, where do you want it?

8" diffs im guessing 4cylinders since its an 82 but the difference between a v6- and 4cylinder diff are minuscuale (sp) and almost not enough to make a substantual difference in the ring gear.

Cranking the torsion bars lifts ~2", BJ spacers ~1.5". So that's ~3.5" of lift in the front and we'll assume the rear too. ATLEAST plus the cut fenders for more clearance. Which was immediately apparent when first looked at it.
