Post your GAS MILEAGE!!
#722
I get just over 350 miles per tank on highway only and about 250 miles per tank around town if I drive conservativly. So whats that, about 21mpg highway and 14mpg around town.
I have slightly bigger than stock tires, 31x10.5's I think, so not sure if that makes a difference.
I guess I should consider myself lucky.

if your line, and your tank is about bone dry, then that would be about 17 gals.
Usually, if your tank light comes on, and you drive say 10 or 15 miles on it, and you go to gas up, you will put in about 15 gallons, 15.5 max.
so if you did 350 miles on a tank, that is about 23 mpgs; Kudos to you sir.
Now then, for T.F.E, if you got 27 mpgs, on a 22re, that is not a 2x4, and with a 4runner/camper style back, and you carried anything at all in the back, then you are the mpg king: and I personally wanna know all the tricks you did to your rig, to get you that mileage.
Usually the only ones that will get tha kinda mileage, is a automatic, small truck in 2x4, or a very stock 2x4 4runner, also automatic.
And carrying pretty much nothing.

and to Brad; that is pretty darn impressive as well, tell us more about your setup?
and to TFE; what exactly do you mean by Canopy? I know the buster dudes on cable, showed that you can get 5 to 15 % more mileage, by having something over the back, even just a rear tail net, other than a tailgate sitting up. So what is your canopy?

Is Brad driving a 3rd gen though? Or is he talking about his old 2nd gen which is now sold?
Ranger, how many US gallons to a litre (Im in Canada). I thought it was 3.8?? I have driven mine on the light for about 50kms (~30 miles) before filling up (so it must have been almost bone bone dry) and I put over 70 litres in the tank to fill it up.
70/3.8 = ~18.4 Gallons.
Im more inclined to think the tank is 65 litres (~17 gallons) and the "reserver" or when the light comes on (whatever its called) is more like 1-2 gallons.

3.75 liters or . 265 gallons per liter. Don't know if there was added gallonage for those sold in Canada, but I kinda doubt it. Yeah, you can go about 30 miles on the light before it dies, so it try to keep it at 20 or less.
Dry weight in my owners manual has it at 17 gallons, or maybe 17.1 or .3 gallons, I can't remember exactly now, but it is one of those three.
To American mc, is that automatic , 2x4; or is that standard and 4x4, but driving it without 4x4
engaged?

No I doubt they would change the 'gallonage'. The car was originally from WA and built in the US. I know I have gotten on or over 70 litres on a number of times. Petro Canada must be ripping me off, time to change petrol stations!!

Fishaa; you could def be right, especially if it is a mom/pop or franchised gas shop. Calibration could also be off on accident, but I would say you are possibly getting jacked on your gallonage. I will try to find out later exactly the size of the tank, but I am sure it is between 17.1 and 17.3 gallons.

I have a 94 pickup, 4x4, 5spd, 22re with a cap, and 28's. I just got back from a 90 mile trip, all highway. I didn't even use a quarter tank =P. I used about 3.8 gallons which comes out to 28 mpg. If i drive 50/50 highway/city i get about 21 mpg. The worst i think i've got is either 14 or 17 mpg.
I recently had the motor rebuilt. The rebuild was at 141,000. I now have 147,000.

Average Milage
Bone stock 2000 4-Runner SR5, 2WD, 3.4 engine, auto, 265 X 16 touring tire aired to 37psi. 50/50 city and highway gets 20 mpg regularly. use 87 octane fuel. Truck has 116K on it and tailpipe is still light brown. Runs great, burns no oil between changes. I have owned 57 vehicles of all makes, models and years in my lifetime and this is without a doubt the best one yet.

Okay, here is an update; first lets go over my rig. 88 4rnr, 5 speed, 4x4, totally stock, with the usual rebuilds. Has a modest 3 inch lift, and the only performance parts would be the magnaflow setup; all stainless and using 2.5 inch before , and 2.75 inch after the CAT, piping. just rebuilt the whole driveline as well, from the clutch assy., to the tranny.
I was avg 20 mpg's regularly, maybe a mile more, with mostly city driving, and allways carrying about 200 lbs of bugout gear at all times. I recently had a blowout on a tire, and replaced just one. However I got panicky, becuase the old tires were at least 10 years old, and the blowout really was a tread seperation. So I bought 3 more next week; Goodyear wrangler at's, 235/75/15's, aired to 35 lbs. I put in 16 gallons, and went.
I pulled into the station last night, with it on fumes, to where it started stalling, going around corners. Odometer read 395 miles!!!! Awesome!!!!
that is a pickup of 75 miles. 75 on one tank--- truly great. I am going to
check it again of course, and last night put in 16.33 gallons of gas, very bony dry. I will check it again, and come back with the results. but if it holds
true that is a pickup of 5 miles per gallon, and that is freaking huge!!!
so let us not overlook a good set of tires, Heck for 400 bucks total, they will pay for themselves in about 30 fillups. Another added benefit, is these tires are so much quieter, and more comfy, than the old ones, it is like I am
driving a different vehicle alltogether.

1992 4Runner, 3.0 Auto, 200K on Engine, 31X10.50R15, stock lift I got 18MPG driving @ 70mph one way of my last long trip and 65mph on the return leg of the trip.
I figure if I'd rock the rig @ 55-60 I'd do better, Also looking forward to throwing in Headers and new exhaust among other mods.
