I thought I should be seeing better mileage, but after reading a few of the posts maybe the truck is doing the best it can.

1986 4X4 xtr cab, 22R with auto transmission and carb.
Street tread tires.

About 18-19 mpg

Managed over 19 mpg.

nothing was changed other than having a spare on. went climbing through mountans up to about 10k from colorado springs which is at mid 6k. even did some little off roading.

new toyo open countrys installed yesterday, 31 10.50 15. rides so much better, we'll see what happens next.

when i first got mine it was getting about 18-20 3vze 32" 11.5 bfg at's. everything else stock. that was mostly highway driving. dropped down to 16 in the city and for some reason kept dropping and got all the way down to 13 at one point. then i did the isr mod and now its back up to high 16/17 mpg.

My followup...drove to Spokane and back last Friday, over 400 miles, with straight pipe from the cat back...Only got 17 mpg, but I kept it at 75mph when speed limit allowed, and floored the gas going up the passes...so I deserved it. The best I've gotten highway was a little over 20

stock 90 4x4 5spd 22re ext cab, 200,000 miles. I just got the truck and I am stoked im getting 20.4-20.9 mpg commuting over a big hill. I am guessing driving on a flat highway I could see 23 maybe 24 mpg. I am keeping the speed under 60 in 5'th. This is such a relief coming from my F250 7.3 diesel which was getting 11-13 mpg. I liked the truck, had lots of power but man the mpg sucked. I really like this toyota. I was surprised how much leg room it had.

On my last fill up I averaged 18 mpg. Mixed town/highway driving.

When I first got the truck years back, it had some crappy Goodyear Wrangler RTS tires on it, got about 22mpg mixed/mostly highway. But those tires got torn up on the trails so bad.

The mileage will really take a hit from M/Ts.

not really sure on this because my speedo is about 10mph off at almost any miles per hour but based on how much gas I get per week, I am getting about 15-20 MPG city and 25 MPG highway on a factory jetted 3.5psi regulated 32/36 Weber Carb'd 22r with 4:10's and 31 X 10.50s and a 5 speed manual trans. Also have the 268 ENGNBLDR cam/stock style brand new complete head and a Downey header, no cat and 2.25" exhaust through a thrush turbo muffler. Fresh 30 over and 10 thousandths blocked deck rebuild with about 2500 miles.
