It was not so long ago that Canada used the Imperial system of liquid measure.

I bought plenty gas in Imperial gallons in Canada in my younger years.

The Canadian roads were marked in miles then, as well.

The United States doesn't use Imperial liquid measurement.

A US gallon is smaller than an Imperial gallon.

Crude oil is still sold worldwide measured by the 42 US gallon barrel, so I guess gallons aren't entirely obsolete.

 

1993 4x4 Hilux, 22RE, stock, std cab, std bed, std trans: 25 mpg

 

1983 4x4 short bed, 7.00 x 15LT 31" stock size mud and ice tube-type tires, 22R engine with stock carb desmogged, stock suspension, no lift, no power steering, 5-speed manual, had 19 MPG with the triangle bar on, gets 22½ MPG with it off. Big difference for just that flat little plate sticking up but it accelerates significantly faster with it off too. How sad, I liked the look of it.

When I get some more of the 7.00 x 15LT ice tires for my front (have a dunlop all terrain on front left and some SUV tire on the right) and some shocks it should be even better.

I'll get 25 MPG if I'm really nice to it.

22r with top end rebuild at 210k miles... and again at 256k due to a broken water pump and a fussy temp gauge.
stock carb with K&N bolt-on

MSD 6a with blaster coil

22.75mpg before I put smittybilt bumpers on the front & rear.
18.25mpg once I put the bumpers on.

I attribute these numbers to the K&N, the 4.88s, the MSD and the 31" tires. I did all these mods in succession and all of them gained me a mpg or two. The k&N raised my MPG because the elevation here is 4100ft and I think it leaned out the fuel mixture a little as airflow increased.

 

hit over 20mpg's in the '00 tacoma after 33" wheels on 4.11 gears. Not bad. Usually I'm getting about 18-19mpg's though, average about 1/3 highway speeds, 2/3 in and around town.

 

Damn...sucking a bit. Only pulled 230 Miles out of a full tank. All city driving and I'm all about the lead foot.

 

!994 single cab 4x4, 2.6 LC Engineering EFI Pro stroker motor, 5 speed, 33s with 4.88s., Billet flywheel 2 stage clutch. All LC Engineering. 11 to 17mpg depending on being in 4 wheel drive in the winter of running a/c in the summer. I have a heavy foot. I average 15 mpg. No highway figures. Never been.

 

'86 4wd pickup, 22r, 16-20mpg depending on driving.

'96 4Runner SR5, manual transmission, stock suspension, 265/70 16" tires, 184,000 miles. Latest mileage figures:
104 miles at 70-80mph on Interstate, starting at 2400' elevation ending at 6000': 18.9 mpg
105 miles at 70-80mph on Interstate, starting at 6000' elevation ending at 2500': 21.9 mpg
126 miles at 5-50 mph on dirt, back country, 4WD roads at 5500-6900' elevation: 15.6 mpg
All with A/C and stereo on...

 

After I rebuilt the 22re in my 85 4Runner w/ 5 speed, I've consistently had just over 20 MPG driving on the roads in 2wd. Rolls on 235/75r15 Hercules Terra Trac a/t2 tires.

I've got as high as 24 mpg on a flat highway where I kept it steady at 60 mph for 110 miles, but that's not real-world conditions.

Lowest was 18 mpg revving high on gravel back roads in 4wd.

 

Just posted on the 22re gas mileage thread and I wanna brag about my '95 'NewRunner with 3.slo a bit too.

This last week the family and I made a run from southern AZ up to northern California to peep the giant sequoias, with a stop on the way home at the south rim of the Grand Canyon.

2 adults, two kids, and dog, with three hundred pounds or so of camping gear.(receiver basket on back and a few things on the roof rack)

Ran right at 1800 miles, mostly @ near 70mph on 97 gallons of 10% ethanol 87 octane fuel for 18.5mpg overall.

Worst tank was about 15.6mpg and a couple pushed 20mpg. Tire and gear specs in my signature

Not too shabby for the ol 3vz-e eh???

22re 5 speed, new tune with 8* advance, 31's w/4.10 gears, Odometer compensation of +1 mile for every 10 traveled. 50/50 mix of highway 65-70 mph & stop and go = 22.3 mpg.
Will be trying a full highway run next.
