Something is wrong if 11 isn't a typo. You should be at 18-20 all highway on that setup.

Its not a typo. I admit am using GPS because my speedo is off in my truck but Im making the same trips in my v8 car an Im getting 16-18 and that is about right...looking at speedo and gps.
My car fluctuates because Im not at a steady 65 lol
In the car Im running 70-85 with a 273 gear and a 28 inch tire

It is a new engine in my truck....could it be timing. that 5.29 gear is really revving at 65(please note I do know what 65 is in my truck) its about 7 miles and hour off at 65

I get close to 20 Hwy, about 24 Hwy when I was using Slick-50. They changed the formula and now it's just snake oil.

1989 Pickup 4x4 Ext Cab 3VZE with 31x10.50's and unsure about gearing...

During this winter, it was a horrid 9mpg

Now though, its jumped back to 12mpg.

In prep for summer ive gone ahead and changed all fluids Diffs/Transfer/Tranny, regreased every nook and cranny. Waiting on a new TPS and O2 sensor so I can try to get the CPU to re-program and looking into a better/bigger VAFM. Waiting on my manual hubs to come in so I can take off the ADDs gears for less resistance with forward driving.

Hoping to hit 16-18mpg by the end of this summer if all mods add a significant boost!!! jejeje

Recently swapped 3.4 into my '89 xtra cab.

Just pulled 20.2 on a mostly highway trip, more like 18 avg around town.

I'm pretty happy with that.

You should be running a 36" tire or bigger. A/T gets better mileage than M/T. I get about 16mpg average -70mph frwy, lead foot in town -36" TSL's -Pacesetter header, no cat.

I bought an '87 4runner on Monday the 20th. It's a 22RE, 5 spd with unknown mileage. (211,000 on the odo but it was towed behind a RV for most of that) It is bone stock with what look like 29" pizza cutter tires. On my first tank I got 20mpg with mixed driving and an afternoon exploring logging roads.

I am going to run the 22RE for at least the next year but plan to swap either a 3.4 V6 or a 2.7 4cyl into it. It just depends how I see myself using it after a year or so. If it becomes a mostly off road rig it will get a 6" lift, 35X12.50's, gears, and the 3.4. If I decide to continue using it primarily as my commuter it will probably get a 4" lift, 33X10.50's, and the 2.7.

This is a great thread, gives me some idea of what to expect from basic mods!

300 mile trip in my '95 3vz-e NewRunner yesterday with me, three passengers, and a large dog + picnic supplies.

250 miles hiway and freeway@ 60-70mph + 50 miles first and second gear on mountain dirt roads. AC running during hiway miles.

294 miles burned 15.65 gallons for 18.78 MPG. A 3.slo that runs right is a thing of beauty.

You are sitting behind a COMPUTER man.. convert it. We all gotta figure out your MPG and none of us are complaining.
I'm averaging 20MPG or 13L/100km
totally stock 1991 runner with a A340H Auto, 3.0l stock everything, 4.556 gears

I've recently
-changed plugs
-cleaned the intake
-changed all belts
-put new tires on (P235/75R15)

I must have a real gem. Before the rebuild, on 30x9.55x15
Unsure of rear gear ratio, 2 inch body lift. 22re

27 city 36 highway @60mph

I always thought it was just because the engine had no power.
