Hahaha... that really cracked me up!

Ok....keep us posted. But I can't see it going much higher than that, esp. with a 4wd. Let some other guys chime in here.

gliding to stoplights actually uses more fuel. slowing down with engine braking in gear, uses almost no fuel, while you're using idle-fuel in neutral.

Ok, so our trucks shut off the injectors when the truck is in gear and foot is off the pedal? (Just checked this out online...)
Fuel cut actually engages anytime the idle is above 1000rpm and you begin breaking.(and with the throttle stop setting, which is why we have to check that throttle stop screw before Adjusting our TPS)... It's even more important in Auto's, as when you come to a light and have to suddenly stop.... You don't want the injectors continuing to get fuel...... /// ....... Works as well in the 22RE's... If I hold my RPM's at 1100rpm and hit the brake and hold it.... just sitting in the driveway on flat ground.... It will repetitiously cut the injector pulse off, every second or so. Seeing that we're coming to a stop in a 5spd, traveling down hill let's say, obviously we'll still be in gear... then it makes sense that the Injectors get cut as we're at 2500rpm in 3rd doing 40(or whatever it is, lol).. Totally contrary to logic to 'need injectors firing' when applying the brake and holding it there.

At idle, fuel 'PRESSURE' only is regulated, mechanically on mine, with the FPRegulator... Injectors keep on firing. BUT, if you keep your foot on the brake and race up the motor to 1200rpm or so... It should drop, continuously, every second, down to 750rpm, then back up to 1200rpm, over and over.

Seen many threads over time, with "My idle is going up and down, over and over", where a person would chase their tail and throw many new parts at it, from CTSensor to TPS to 02's to even AFM's... When most often, it was just the Idle/Air adjustment screw a bit off or in one case an IACV(AAV) stuck open, along with a perfectly normal function, "Fuel Cut". I've even seen, on one, a Tach was off(like mine and most of them are).... Where the tach read 800rpm and it was actually 1000rpm in reality... He went to a buddy that owned a repair shop and the buddy hooked it up to his Sun Scope.... "Your rpm is 1050, not 800"... VOILA, ..he reset it and it stopped doing that, haha

NOPE, they actually drive it with 10 computers on it and CRAWLING through town and never above 2200RPM and... so on, lol)
Oh, I know how they're done. Even looked into doing some car design/import work after I moved to the US, to give it some more capable cars (even the hemi charger is slower than the volvo's the UK police have been using for the last 20 years, and the cargo capacity is a whole nother story - so I had to look into EPA stuff hten)

Funny thing, I was going through the glove box yesterday, and found the original EPA window sticker. And the bill of sale (Feb 89, it had a sticker price of $19k and an 88 pickup was traded in on it)

I'm not sure what size tyres are on it, just know that they're the 'stock size' (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d3...ck/DSCF0039.jp gives you a look at them, this is from last year when the wife's uncle decided he'd give it to our eldest, when she got her license - he drives the 78 wrangler renegade in the background)

I will keep y'all informed on how the mileage works out!

Sounds good, Ktetch, I'll be watching to see. Far as the stock tires... That's a BIG difference, for sure.... I'm running 32's... and while they're not huge, they're not stock, lol. I guess maybe 4" over stock height? Maybe 3" over in width? >>>

But, I normally run 31's... And I do have 4.30's, which aren't the 4.56's the 31's SHOULD have to be 100% accurate...BUT, they're helpful at least.

I don't think it's supposed to engage fuel cut if there is any throttle input at all. It might do that if the TPS is reporting 0% throttle when there is more than 0% being commanded, though.

Yeah.... I'm not sure I threw that out there properly, lol... Thanks, Dirt. TRUE, the TPS trippin can do things.. But what I think I mentioned, which is really what I've noticed, myself, is that "if the idle is set around 1100 or so.... When sitting at a light even, the idle will drop and back up, over and over, every second or so." ......

I noticed some odd things for a while now... I've got a lil 'mind of it's own' on occasion. Seems to be ambient temp related(seems to idle up when it's cold out, just around 100rpm or so)... I've adjusted the TPS many times, and made sure this one was pretty solid on the 'specs' dept... and of course, first set my throttle plate stop screw, before adjusting the TPS.

Anyway.... Thanks, Dirt... And i really need to read up more on the 'Fuel Cut' and a few other things.... (I see mudhippy throwing up stuff that really makes me want to get a few more things down, lol).. Not bad from where I was a couple years ago/spare time... BUT, can always learn more, eh?

1995 SAS 33" tires, reg cab, 22RE 5speedwith about 156000 miles on it and I get about 20-25 with it. It only gets in the low twenties when I am slamming through the gears with a heavy foot.

I didn't do the head gasket int he end - It started raining, and engine in bits + rain = bad results from experiance.
I did do coolant, put in oil+filter (penzoil high milage 10w30 and a pureone filter) and cleaned and regapped the plugs, plus a new set of wires and blew out the air filter, AND cleaned the crap from the airbox. I also took the chance to liberally squirt carb cleaner in the plug holes to break down any crap that might be in the cylinder.

Did a 100 mile run yesterday (had to go into Atlanta to pick up some Glasses). Usually it kinda hovers at 60mph tops, now it was cruising at 70 effortlessly, and I even had enough power to pass on the 2-lane state highway that comprises the 20 miles between I-20 and my home.

Clearly I'm expecting my MPG to go up :-)

BTW, I recommend pulling your plugs and checking them semi-regularly. It's your window on the inside of the cylinder. Personally, I use a dremel+wire wheel on the electrodes to clean them up. any deposits degrade the spark. I used to do it weekly on my MG Metro twin-turbo, just because it was just a quick+simple job and helped me keep an eye on how it was running (although I cheated after 2 months, and had 2 sets of plugs - I'd just swap them then clean the set I just took out with less worry about stuff getting in the hole or damaging the plug and being stuck.

Hi I am new to the site and thought this would be a good start on the site to say Hi
I have a 1994 2wd extra cab truck, with the 22re , automatic, wheels are stock 6" steel with Michelin tires 207/75/14 from Costco
The truck has 246,000 miles on it and I believe my head gasket may have just gone as I am loosing radiator fluid.
Around town 22MPG
Freeway driving 55to 60 mph I get 26.5 MPG
Freeway at 80 MPH I get 21 to 23 MPG

Plenty of information on the 3vz if you search around. Some people love it, some people hate it. Read:
