I also have a 90 4runner,automatic,stock with same size tires.
I was told,that if I change the O2 sensor,I'd pry gain about 3-5 mpg.
My rig has 227,000 miles on the factory O2 sensor.
Gonna change it here, real soon and Im anxious to see the difference in that little bit of mpg increase.

I have a 1987 4runner turbo and I get...on a good day...about 16mpg running on 31inch tires.
I think the reason my runner is getting that kind of milage is the fact that my auto trans is slipping bad and I need to have the rear bearings done.
Just a thought....
Thank you

Just got back from a 450 mile trip to go fishing and averaged 23.37mpg for the trip.
22re, 218,000 miles, 5 speed in a loaded to the gills (with camping crap) 1989 4runner.
I'm thinking when I go synthetic next week I might get even better economy.

So far I'm getting around 16-17mpg.
22rte, T-3 turbo, 2 1/2 exhaust, Sweet ass intake
, 31" tires, Gay ass auto
, and the rest is bone stock. Can't wait to post after I get the manual swapped in, better exhaust manifold and better gears.

1994 2wd with a 22re, 255/70/15 tires, manual trans, heavy foot, same 20 mile stretch of road to work and back everyday and I get 15 mpg. It's running rich though, I can shoot fire out the tailpipe! K&N air filter and an exhaust with no converter and a glasspack

I have a stock 1991 22re Xtra Cab 4x4, it is less than 2 weeks old, I had to add a new speedometer cable, the odometer does not function properly trip meter right three digits work. so I have fill up before hit 100 miles. I got 21 one time and 17 one time. I am not sure why the vast difference. Anyway I am open to suggestion. Truck has 31" if I switch it down to some 235 or 225 will that help. I am doing 90% highway driving. I will ad more mpg as days go by.
this time I got 18mpg, any suggestions on changing the tires sizes back to factory.

dude, it's running WAY rich, you should get twice that. I have the same basic truck but automatic and it gets 22-24mpg

my mpg's on 85 4runner and 93 pu
Both are 4x4.
4runner is an 85, auto, 22RE, 260,000 miles, 2 inch lift, 32 inch AT Yokohamas. The 4runner gets around 17-19 mpg.
Pickup is a 93, Manual, 22RE, 160,000 miles, no lift, 31 inch AT Yokohamas. The Truck averages 19-23 mpg.

Yeah I got under my Runner and noticed that my o2 isn't even hooked up and then I wired it up and fried my fuse box but that is fixed now. I have to get a new o2 sensor now also. i guess that is why i am only getting 12-14 mpg!?!

'94 4Runner SR5 3.0 vz-e 31x10.5's. K&N air filter, replaced O2 Sensor, High $ NGK's (unsure on exact model), new cap/rotor, wires, plugs and fuel filter. Newer fuel pressuer regulator.
I only get 11-14 mpg with mixed driving, but I used to get as much as 17 on 90% highway. This was back in cooler weather with no a/c running. Everything else the same.
Since the ethanol 10% fuel mixture has been messing up our FL vehicles, I have been running a product called sea foam. This stuff can go in the gas tank or the crank case. When added to fuel, it supposedly cleans fuel systems. When added to oil, it cleans engine deposits and carbon buildup. One thing it doesn't advertise is it's leak slowing/stopping qualities. I added 1.5oz/qt oil =7.5oz to the crank case after losing a quart in 1200 miles. I then only lost about 1/4 quarts in the remaining 1800 miles 'til the change. As far as mileage, it doesn't do anything, but the truck runs smooth.
