88 4runner, 22re, 33's, 4.10 gears. Just came back from a 1600 mile Colorado to Utah trip including 300 miles in the maze district. Got 20.5 for the whole trip and 18 for the maze section (only 30 miles of pavement!) I get around 17 in the city but hopefully that will improve when I drop 5.29's in it.

Was getting 14-15 mpg for the past several months. So I replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, air and fuel filters, and on my next tankfull I got 17 mpg. That's mostly around town, but some 55-60 mph 2-lane driving, too.

You can read about my build--search hross14 (P0171......problem codes). The motor isnt stock but.....

And i know this sounds like a fish story but i did some preliminary mpg calculations and this is what i got

300 miles @ 13.64=21.99 MPG??

That doesnt sound right for 35's ....etc...I reset the trip odo so we will see what this next tank of gas gets....if this is the case--it is going to make my build that much better (better Return On Investment ROI)..... IF i were to correct for the 11% error on my spedo-meter it would be 320@ 13.64=23.46??? WTF (F stands for Fruit)

I will run this whole tank and see what i come up with. I hope i am right

EDIT:Ran a whole tank and this time i got 15mpg--knew it was to good to be true

Which one? The fuel economy or the way you checked it? You need to get an average over a minimum of several full tanks, not every 30 miles of driving.

Mine is still getting 27-30. I think the worst it got was ~24 a few months ago coming back from Barstow into a 40-50mph head wind.
