I can finally post my results! My 87 4Runner with 22RE and 5-speed had been sitting for 15 years. Restored just about everything. New T100 brakes, all maintenence items, packed the bearings, you name it. Put a new cap, rotor, OEM plugs, and Denso O2 sensor on there.

New 31" tires, stock 4.10 gears, Warn Manual Hubs.

First tank of gas, 250 miles after +9% mileage correction factor....22MPG!!!!

Stock 87 SR5, 22RE with 222K, fresh headgasket and general clean up and inspection of the drive line, brakes and engine cooling system. 5 speed w/4.10 gearing on stock tires. First tank with a mix of freeway and in town driving I got exactly 20 MPG. I think I should be able to squeeze another 2-3 MPG if freeway only and I keep it at 65-70.

91 pickup, 3vze 5 spd 31" tires 4.10 gears, highway/around town (rural/suburbs) 17-19 summer. Around town in the winter when I'm at college 7-12, this thing hates cold weather, any advice for better mpg in winter?

My trusty calculator quit working, so this is the best I can come up with. My odometer says I drove 200 miles (somehow managed exactly 200) She took 11.423 gallons. Comes out to 17.50 mpg. I know my speedo is off, running 31x10.5s. My drive to work is 23 miles (GPS) Odometer only added 21 miles on my drive this morning. That's off by roughly 9.8%. So that adds 19.6 miles. I'll just add 19 to keep it easier. That comes out to 19.17 mpg. Now according to a tire size calculator, my speedo is off 9.51%. That all comes out to about the same.

So, assuming this is all right, I'm averaging right at 19 mpg. All city. And I haven't been driving her "nicely" 1989 X-Cab 4x4 with a laundry list of problems.

my 1991 4runner, Auto, 3.0 with stock 225's, was getting 14mpg avg on orange flamethrower injectors and some grounding issues. All that finally fixed, now I'm getting avg 17.5, with hwy at about 21mpg. I'm happy now. I was getting a bit nervous with the 14mpg. lol

EDIT: Now I'm on the tan flamethrower injectors which are excellent!

My next three tanks averaged 22-24.5 depending on how spirited I've been driving.

Makes me wonder what it would be if I had stock size plain-jane style tires instead of the 31" AT's. Or even if I put a 2.25" exhaust on. I'd probably be knocking on 30mpg!

Bone stock '99 4runner, been averaging 20mpg with mostly highway driving out here in Salmon Idaho. If it's a real long trip I can get almost 22! Hasn't dipped below 18, even with a lot of driving on rough FS roads in 4lo.

Got back from a 1700 mile trip and averaged 21mpg. And that was running 75-80mph.

Bump

Dead thread... Not on my watch...

12.12 gallons. I think it was 19.5-ish. Not bad for a terrible exhaust leak and 2 plug wires that were pushed on (kinda) but not connected to the plugs. Oops. And a failing head gasket. Losing coolant like crazy. AANNYYYWAY...

22re, stock, 31x10.5 R15. AVG speed is avg moving speed.

90 22re 5spd 4x4
33x10.50x15's
No lift
4.10's
I average 18/19mpg
And yes I factor in the offset of the trip with the bigger tires and 4.10's
