My 3.4 that I will swap into my 95 4runner.
Still need a computer, flywheel, clutch, and wiring harness that will work on a 97 3.4 5 speed 4x4. The flywheel from an auto won't work on a standard tranny will it?

I have no clue about engine swaps, but I am so glad you did the right thing!
I need to hang around those engine swap threads more...lol.
Good Luck, if you need any misc. parts, I have an independant Toyota truck dismantler here that sells all the stuff you need, but it might be expensive, not sure. If you need anything, let me know.

"flywheel" for an auto = flex disk = thin little stamped piece of steel.
flywheel for the clutch = big massive 1" thick piece of steel that you dont want to have to buy new. (cough north of $600 cough)

Good luck with the swap. I am in the San Diego area, so if you need anything out this way I am offering my services. Check out parts, pick up and shipping, whatever. You will likle the 3.4. That engine rocks.

okay i have pondered the same idea in my 92 truck. the only problem that i can think of with the swap is that here in california the refs get picky with these kinda swaps. i've done numerous honda swaps. but they weren't legal. the ref would never pass them. has any one done this swap here in california and had good luck getting it smog legal? please let us know how much of a hassle it was to get everything legal? thanks in advance.

You will have no problem with smog or the refs in California if you (1) use a newer engine (which you are), (2) use an engine that was smog certified for use in California (which the 5VZ-FE obviously is), and (3) retain 100% of the 5VZ-FE's smog devices. If the visual checks out, they will run the sniffer and if everything is in place and working properly you will get your CARB sticker for under the hood.

Ok, so I ordered a clutch, flywheel, and computer. Now I just need the wiring harness and a few other odds and ends. I have a call into ORS to see how much just the 3.4 conversion wiring harness will be. Hopefully next week I will be able to at least drop the motor in and see what else I need. I also found out that I need to use my 3.0 oil sending unit on the 3.4. Anything else y'all can think of?
Thanks,
Robert
