If anyone is interested in a cheap trick to removed the crank bolt; all you need to do is wrap strong rope that won't stretch around the crank pulley (wrap it three or four times) & then tie it off somewhere solid on the vehicle.

The rope stops the pulley from turning.

yea i would have used a piece of rope if i hadn't gotten mine loose in the truck.

yea i don't think i'll get a new clutch..i'll get the flywheel resurfaced..and a new pilot and throwout bearing.

and now i'm trying to figure out how to get the oil pump off....??!?!? i figured after i unbolted it from the block, and got the 5 or so bolts out of the front of the oil pan that it would just come off...but nooo...i can pry it away from the block..but it won't come of..wtf?

My engine block is on a stand, just replaced all the rings & pistons over the last few days. I'm about to replace the oil pump tonight and read this ....now i'm a bit concerned... I'm going to definitely take some pictures more often, other than resurfacing my heads, we have done everything at home.

Looks like i'll need a new KnockSenser Pigtail...i'd buy a new Knocksensor but Autozone and O'reilly's want 120+ for one...OMG

Anyone got any tips on cleaning out the upper manifold? It's got charcoaled oil and crud in it like crazy and i have no clue how to get at the turnaround part (stamped TOYOTA on top). So far i've used Mineral Spirits and a toilet bowl brush, pliers and rags, old toothbrush, coat hanger, etc..pulled every sensor off the side and cleaned them too...still seems pretty nasty in the far end "turnaround"

Once this thing is fixed up, i pretty much want it to look like this --->>>

As for a Rebuild Kit, i got an extra one for sale, most of it came from ebay, but those HeadGaskets were CRAP, so i bought a new HG (L+R) from Rock.Auto Then, once my heads were off, saw i was going to have to pull the whole thing, looked at Engnbldr.com and bought his complete kit for 325 with Headbolts.

What i Have for Sale if anyone is interested PM me...don't hijack this build....

Headgaskets(28$x2), 8 new headbolts (one side) Felpro($24) all from RockAuto

Complete gasket set (payed $65)
Was 145$ plus, I'd sell all of it for $110 plus shipping.

Bc I thought when I saw a "set" of Felpro HBolts on Rock Auto for a good price, I assumed a set was 16, got the box, called RockAuto, happens that felpro is sold that way on their website. That's why.

Rebuild kits, parts etc.

www.engnbldr.com who i finally just got the full rebuild kit from....ironically uses Rock Products for the 3.0v6...probably from Rock Auto but the full set is cheaper here than directly from RockAuto...go figure.

www.rockauto.com lots and lots of parts but look over full descriptions closely, pics etc. a Set isn't always everything you need, but they are very friendly and helpful.

UPDATE!!!!

motor is at Southwestern.

Crankshaft is GOOD.

block needs to be bored...something happened with some pistons and it fubarred some walls....

a few valves were messed up as well..he said sometime it dumped A LOT of fuel into the cylinders and that's what eventually did the damage..OR it got REALLY hot..

so i'm gonna check my sensors for one thing..flush the radiator cuz it's rusty as hell..

new scenario though, he took some valves from another 3VZ he had in his shop for spare parts, and he's gonna check out that block to see what it would take for it to be usable, he said he's trying hard to keep the price down as low as possible, and so far it's still at $900 so he's doin good! lol

and on a worse note, my friends '86 22re took a crap on him..i'm gonna start a thread about that lol.

my 4runner took a crap so i bought a 2003 wrangler, with the 4.0.

but other than that...

$900 is a really good price for a full rebuild. were any of the valves burnt?

core block he had in the shop was no good...

he bored my block (don't know how much yet) and ground my crankshaft, apparently it wasn't good? lol

waiting on bearings and pistons and then it's goin back together and back to my garage.

the extra $50 is for the pistons LOL

i'm getting ready to buy the gasket kit from the guy on here i hope if he still has it.

okay, just got off the phone with Southwestern. good and bad news

parts will be in this evening! This is the good news

The bad news is, they tacked on about another $50....had to buy 4 exhaust valves and 2 intake valves...all i'm paying for is the price of the parts and that's it, i looked up the prices at rockauto.com and it came out to be about $49...so i'm guessing his prices will be a little steeper than that.

i got told that he took valves out of another 3VZ...but it turns out that those valves were made slightly different (they had a square something and mine are rounded?) so he had to order the new ones... which doesn't really bother me...because i would have NEVER known that LOL..so the price is now up to around $1000.

i'm taking my '80 toyota to my college town tomorrow to sell it (hopefully...pray for me guys lol) and that will give me a nice chunk of change to put a BIG dent in that $1000 price tag!
