The #2 idler pulley is what's flopping around, I guess. There's also a hydraulic tensioner that bolts onto your fan bracket. You need to follow the FSM for reinstalling your used tensioner, which needs to be compressed (I used a C-clamp) and a retaining pin installed while installing.

I am not sure if you have looked into this and I am sure that are well past the cam thing and I would have to say I have enjoyed reading about this project as I am strting this same undertaking. There is a guy who makes a cam for the 3vze engine called Weasy2k just thought I would throw it out there since I have been doing lots of research on the topic. Keep up the good work and thanks for the time you have thrown into this.

anybody got any info on the tensioner?

i don't see how a pin 1/8" in diameter will be able to tighten a belt...without rubbing a hole in it?

Camo... nice work and documenting on the rebuild, ive got a 95 runner 3.0 auto thats working good, but is getting some bottom end noise, more like a knock. Anyway ive been contemplating on a 3.4 swap or a rebuild of my 3.0. The runner is my daily driver and it seems like the rebuild would be if not cheaper, alot less hassle. Im definitely no mechanic and the thought of rewiring everything myself almost gives me nightmares... The Toyota dealership here in NB Canada quoted me $1700 just for labor on a 3.0 LOL no parts included! I can also pick up a used 3.0 for $300-350 or a 3.4 for 400$, but then theres always the nickle and diming is what gets ya for everything else needed for the swap. What made you do the rebuild rather than the swap?

Cheers

the ONLY thing that made me do the rebuild instead of the swap...was that the rebuild was SUPPOSED to be a lot quicker to obtain...........but it didn't happen like that......

if i could go back in time..i would have just swapped for a 3.4...

The hydraulic tensioner doesn't push on the belt itself, it pushes on the idler pulley that is under the passenger side cam sprocket. In the FSM it is called the No. 1 Idler Pulley. If you look on the underside of that pulley you will see the spot where the hyd. tensioner pushes on it. The link should help. I just put mine back together today so let me know if you need any more help.

DRUM ROLL PLEASE

BACK IN THE TRUCK!!!!!!

still got a lot to do though...it's in time..and the clutch stuff is done, injectors are in..fuel rails on..exhaust manifolds are on..fan bracket, and that's a bout it...lmao

i feel accomplished for sure, but i have to go work on my food plot the rest of the day..gonna plant it this thursday or friday so i gotta have it done lol

should have put the A/C back on before i put the motor in, dumb move......

but i gotta throw that on, power steering, fan, radiator, alt., belts, upper intake manifold, along with all that shabang.

after that needa throw some fluids in it...needa figure out why it wouldn't start before i tore it down...could definitely take a while to do that i'm afraid cuz i'm stumped.

i think it has something to do with the alarm

anybody think they can help just speak up!

I just found your build again. I remember when you started and guess you had to wait for funds for awhile. I know how that goes. Looks like you are making alot of progress. keep at it and it will pay off. I used to live in Tulsa. Is Vian closer to Tulsa or Ft. Smith? I now live south of Joplin. Isnt there some trails over by Ft Smith? I get home soon and will be looking for a new project. Not sure if I want a 4runner or truck. Guess the right one will come along, and I plan on doing a thread on it when I do. Hang in there, you should be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Looks awesome Camo! Did you invert your passenger side exhaust flange to lose your crossover in the end? Keep up the solid work, I hope it purrs for you soon.

yes Joe i did!

alas i have forgotten to test fit that particular downpipe ...I'll do that when i get home from college and take a few pictures of it!

i used the crossover flange to make the flange for my new downpipe, and the other crossover flange to make my block-off plate! worked like a charm (so far....) but i have a feeling it will leak and have to be re-done.

i'll also be putting on the crank pulley, and timing covers.

getting Spark plugs today NGK V-Power's gapped to 0.036..and i will likely advance the timing by about 2 or 3 degrees, talked to a guy that seen a decent improvement gapping his plugs at .036 and advancing 3*!

i've been told the plug wires i have right now are WAY expensive (over $100 a set) and they look BRAND NEW, so i'm probably going to be reusing them!

I live closer to Fort Smith Terry! about 32miles actually...theres an offroad park over between Van Buren and Fort Smith on the riverside..i have yet to go to it though..and there is an ORV park in Braggs (about 23miles from Vian, on Camp Gruber government land) that i've heard is pretty fun, but all i've been able to find are 4wheeler trails ...if there are more, then idk about them lol..i'd , like to have a few places to go wheeling though so if you know of any, speak up!
