After driving around with the one headlight that problem is fixed! I just went with HID bulb style headlights. I'm not in love with the look of LED headlights on old stuff, yet😉.
I really did like the old halogens we had by Phillips ( especially since we could not tell we only had one working bulb) but the driver side bulb burned out in under 2 years. Seems quick to me .

Your new ones look like the "crystal clear" eBay specials I put on both my sons' 1st gen Tacomas. I really liked their look. Coem to think of it I put them on the 00 4Runner too. I just got new lights for the '89 but haven't installed them yet. I'm pretty sure they are Phillips. As far as the halogen bulb burning out, did you at any time touch them with a gloveless hand? I've heard that'll kill them quicker. I'm about to change out the '08 4Runners headlights when I get back to town. So sick of polishing the plastic lenses. You and that 4Runner sure do get around!
Nervo19 you nailed it! Crystal clear e bay specials are what I got LOL basically bought them for the housings and the face is glass. good to hear that you've had good results with these though. I figured if the bulbs burned out quick I would just go with the name brand like phillips. Now I can just change them from inside the engine bay instead of taking the whole housing out. should specify , the old halogens were sealed beams they just burned out quick kind of a shame. I have rounds that are 10 years old like that they're still going so I don't get it.
Also got a good deal on the headlights, they sent me rounds by accident then the right headlights free. So now I may be replacing the old round sealed halogen bulbs next 😉
oh yeah I hate the plastic lenses too. Time to replace the headlights on the FJ we dId the headlights on the wrECHO 3 years ago due to a traffic accident .
This weeks getting around with the 4runner we took a nice ride a couple times out to my favorite little out of the way state park for some fishing and wildlife spotting.

speaking of the 4runner getting around we put on 16000 miles since the engine rebuild.
I'm enjoying all the pictures of New England. All my relatives up there are gone. My computer went black screen so until I can transplant the memory I'm really missing a lot of pictures. I stole this from my youngest son's FB page. These are the Tacoma version of your lights. This was a $5500 truck in 2018. He has sold it. The front bumper alone was worth $1200.
At Frog Rock today then cruising to Tri-State Cruisers in Pomfret. Looks a little like double vision. Now that's a nice looking 4runner.
And before that we stopped for lunch at
Mashamoquet Brook State Park .

Do those headlights need an adapter? or they plug and play?
As far as I know they do not need an adapter. I'm running similar in a 66 VW and it was plug and play. On the 4runner though I did install the headlight wiring harness that has the relays in it. That harness alone helps with the headlights.
Both 4Runners look so good! I think I'm going back to amber turn signals. I hope I didn't sell the original ones. They're probably buried in the garage.
Funny you should mention them amber marker lights, we were discussing the fit of aftermarket parts 😉
Another adventure at Mashamoquet Brook State Park. I wanted to see how the much-needed recent rain brought up the low water there. It looks a lot better but more is needed.
having the old cigarette lighter saved the day with wet matches.
just a cool photo by accident, this was portrait setting. My phone likes to do that.

The clears fit just fine and they've been on since September 2016 when I got the 4Runner painted. They came with amber bulbs that haven't burned out. I got them on eBay, whatever vender who was cheapest with shipping. I'm just thinking of making it OEM. There should be some pics on my slow build page. My computer died suddenly, and my pictures are in limbo. I've got to put the hard drive in another laptop. It's always something.
Here we go:

Reason: add picture
The fit on the Yang Tang or whatever they are called (also from e bay) isn't horrible but a little bit off and the amber part in the front needs to be shaved a little. I used the same on the tail light lenses and they seem good. I got all the original lights and spares with the truck but the lenses are slightly fogged. For some reason the right rear tail lens always looked orange even though I put a red bulb in. Strange.
I've been watching your thread and thought I had commented at some point but it doesn't look that way. Anyway that 4runner is too clean so I can't look at that, lol.

Some more overlanding. Last time we went on these roads in the spring time I realized we came out not too far from one of our favorite places for peach and apple picking so this is now the extra scenic route! It's a bit more rutted out because of yesterday's storms and I figured the 4runner would loose some traction but it's a 🐐 and goes through everything. This made us want to go further!
final destination for the peaches today.

Flying solo today, well I did have my hiking buddy though. Last time we were out here I noticed a blue blazed trail here that I've never seen before so went to investigate. I thought it was going to run a little closer to Bigelow Brook but it kinda meandered away. I'll need to head out earlier next time so I can hike it further and make my way to Bigelow Hollow State Park where it may lead to. It looks to be a real interesting hike through some fairly remote area.
Plus a photo shoot with Black Beard. The dog doesn't love 4 wheeling 🤣
Spotted this one at my lunch stop at an old general store that has a killer deli.
Today I grabbed the family and we did some exploring out near Tunxis State Forrest. Last time we were out here with some friends they noticed some other dirt roads. They went out there Monday and did some wheeling so I wanted to find whatever they found. I found some cool stuff and one road I'm pretty sure they didn't find 😉
Here we had to do a 14 point turn because this tree covered too much. I had to wheel too far in reverse and didn't enjoy that. We stopped to check to see if all mud flaps were still there. Next time I'm bringing a saw.
probably our last trip to Sweet Beet, the building sold and they are probably going to close up for good. We stopped for our picnic supplies for People's State Park.
this is the road I don't think our friends found out here. I don't know if a full sized pickup is going to be ideal on this trail.
the owner of the Cobra likes the 4runner and we liked the Cobra. Had a nice conversation with him while we waited at the stoplight.
Today's fun with Blackbeard
Tanks for the fun Black Beard. The fight against rust continues today on Black Beard. I removed the fuel tank because I needed to do a lot of welding and grinding near the area of the fuel tank fill nozzle. Plus I'm in the process of swapping out the fuel pump at the same time while I'm there.
Trust me it looked worse than it does now. there were a lot of gaps that I had to fill in this time with my horrible cutting job even though I cut a section twice for this LOL
remember the driver's door I used in the past for body panels?
