just added a fresh coat of fluid film. The one spot that has never been sprayed with it because the fuel tank was there. Also added a Fresh coat of rust encapsulator the other day before doing this.
another before and after .
if all goes well tomorrow the fuel tank should be back in place.
i'm digging your wheel covers. a nice 60s/70s look.
Ya know what I like best about them? They are OEM Land Cruiser wheels! I got the idea from here, a guy was using them on his pickup truck build. it's a really nice truck too. I absolutely love those original alloy wheels that the later 4runners had but nowadays like the steel wheels. Got em on e bay.......
Nice work. I was going to ask if you cut that patch from a door, and then I saw yes, yes you did. LOL. I wonder why so many rust in that area?
Salt brine, that's what's killing my favorite vehicles here! I've got to really start addressing my 08 FJ Cruiser soon. Today I had to fight the good fight to get one of the skid plate bolts out that snapped off. It Isn't even original and I've added antisize before! No use using SS bolts either. They are just too soft and rust just as fast here.
The door s a great piece for the repair! Once in a while I get a good idea then there are the other crazy ideas I come up with. Ha ha. Like 4 wheeling to the apple farm again today.
who would have thought we would see an even older yota pickup on the road today! besides the FJ 40 we passed at a local automotive shop.
So this is where it's at so far , a little more sanding and filler and it will be done.
and the hard top is back on.
don't you just hate when someone is standing around doing nothing? This just happened to be a byproduct of the modification I did to the top.
Ah, fall. The leaves change to beautiful colors, the critter's hair gets shaggier, or they get fat for hibernation, the hard tops re-appear on the first gen 4Runners, and all the Toyota 4WD trucks of all sorts come out of estivation....
That stand for the soft top is really nice. Did you make it yourself, or buy it someplace? Just curious...

That's some high octane poetry right there Pat😊
The soft top just stands up when I pivot the mount because I drilled out the rivets to make it fold back instead of forward like it used to. It's originally a soft top for a pickup that I made work on the 4runner. My son says it's the most macgyvered thing he's ever seen LOL
And today:
this is as far as I'm taking it till final body work when I actually paint it. Hopefully in the spring time. I just rolled some paint on it for now to cover it til then.

Fuel pump swapped and bracket cleaned up.
another good video that helps, of course it's an Alex Man vid
Just did mine as well, with aid from our very own Alexman.
Found the prefilter sock screeen torn.
Also found old pump resistance very low @4.5 ohms, while new pump's was at @49 ohms - went down to 23.3 ohns once installed and submerged in fuel.
Somehow, the Denso replacement kit only came with one hose clamp. Old clamp is too loose so I backed up with worm-gear hose clamp.

that's awesome, great videos by him! That stinks about the clamp missing and the sock tore though. The fuel pump and sock looked fairly clean when I pulled it out. I was so nervous that main fuel line would break off and then it would be dead in the driveway. I then would need to figure out how to get it in the garage to get the top back on it or get a couple neighbors to help lift the top. Good times!
I'd like to say this was the result of some awesome 4 wheeling adventure but more likely due to construction in Stafford CT. On our way back from a parts exchange with Melrose 4r yesterday.
Today my wife called me from a grocery store when she came out to a flat in the parking lot. I got to use my new portable compressor though . Easier than a tire change but slow. The tire is junk now, it's the sidewall. About 10000 miles on it. It got me back home no problem then I spayed the suspect area on the sidewall with soapy water to see the bubbles coming out.
