Looks great! Drove my truck to work yesterday but i probably won’t get the top off before May.
you gotta rig up a lift in the garage for the top. I still want to do something better for the current lift to get the top higher yet but it's so good now that I'm tempted to use it more often when the weather isn't as good as we've had lately but I do have a nice tent to park under these days. I lowered the tent too so there is less chance of rain going in sideways.
I was fortunate to have this week off from work and the weather finally cooperated for us! The last trail we were wheeling on our friends showed us and I was the one to tell them how to get there. I never noticed that other road all these years. Cool places out there. Nice little pond and an old stone house foundation .
I got some cool parts from 22RE performance recently 😎 it came in an OEM Toyota part box labeled as a shroud, well I guess it is a shroud.......... They crack me up at 22RE performance with the descriptions and e mail notifications.

Well this turned out to be a bigger project than expected! I want to paint the rear bumper while I'm painting the roof rack for my FJ and not only was the bumper bolted on by atleast 8 bolts someone welded the bumper to the brackets and the brackets are welded to the frame.
it took a little longer to get everything I needed together for paint so I only painted the rear bumper. The FJ roof rack will have to be done separately.

I wrapped the bumper up like a Christmas present and it's back on. Then jumped in to take it for a spin and I think I blew the ignition coil.
I pulled the spark plug wire from coil to the distributor cap last night so my wife didn't accidentally take it to work before I got the bumper back on. I think it ground out when I jumped in and turned the key forgetting that I pulled it last night. At first I thought it was the ignitor so I put in the spare that I have in and got it running. Then I put the old one back with an older coil that I had and it started.
new speedometer cable installed today. I tried to get one from Toyota parts deal. com but the order was canceled. I looked it up again and couldn't even find one on there anymore. I got one on e bay that was custom made but no firewall grommet. I contacted the seller and he was like "use the old one because they are not available " the old one is toast and the grommet has to be installed on the cable before the ends. that's why the grommet is NA, it is part of the cable. anyhow I got one from yota shop (Speedometer Cable- Toyota 4Runner & Pickup Truck 22R & 22RE OEM Speedometer Cable (1984-1989) 83710-89147) it works and is a little short but reached the cluster and the part that attached to the transmission is a little different. it didn't fix the shaky needle though so come winter time we will probably still have the squealing sound from the guage cluster. the problem is probably the cluster.
So after a quick test drive the speedometer needle looked steady. I added just a little bit of grease to the end that goes to the cluster during installation maybe it worked out or maybe originally testing it by jacking up the rear axle wasn't good enough 🤔
Just doing regular 4runner things. As seen from a window at the town hall yesterday.
and today the 4runner in its natural environment. They opened the gates to my favorite dirt roads in Peoples Forrest!
sunny and 80s
we saw a turkey and a bear cub out there.
Ahhh our first trip to Vermont this year with the 4runner. I even managed to get in some dirt roads. Of course we weren't expecting route 9 to be a major dirt road! It reminds a lot of the logging roads in North Maine Woods right now due to construction.
we didn't have the oldest vehicle in the lot at the Vermont Welcome Station!
From the welcome station it's a short hike to this cold and clear little river that we cross to get to the trail that leads to Fort Dummer State park. It was nice to hit that river since it was 92 degrees even in Southern Vermont! The campground was completely empty since it's not open for camping till next weekend.
Another beach trip with 4runner. It was actually a little cool on the way even though we left in the afternoon. I don't mind a little bit of cool ride 😎
can you spot the weird pickup that people can ride in the back of? Haha, we got a lot of astonished looks on the highway from other drivers heading to the beach. Also a couple thumbs up including the guy working at the state park entrance. The 4runner put a smile on his face 😄
This is a weird repair job. When I got into the 4runner the other day heading to the beach I noticed this little part that looked something like an RC car part. It turns out the emergency brake light switch came apart. I think the walls to the switch spread apart. I cleaned, greased and reassembled it plus wrapped a zip tie around it.
We took the 4runner to a local cruise night with a buddy from the VW club we are part of who happens to own an old Samurai. This thing is cool!
lots of cool trucks there too! This is the final product after 14 months of work.
Those Samuri used to be everywhere in CT in the 90’s. I drove one around a dealer’s lot once and my impression was it was small and very stiff in the suspension.

I drove my buddy's last summer, the lowered one. It seemed to ride good but something is up with the clutch return spring ( cable clutch) and I kept slamming the peddle to the floor, lol. I'm used to the cable clutch that the beetles have and the peddle has more resistance. Oh and he was having a high idle issue then and was surprised I just drove off with the idle gassing it for me . When warming up my 1990 Toyota 2WD truck back in the day I would get up to 40 that way. Haha good times.
