And one more from yesterday in Vermont, a cool old metal bridge.
Then just after we got home I started to clean and paint the heat shields. Painted with som Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. No problems with any of the mounting bolts thanks to the coating of fluid film. Some of the bolts still have the zink coating on them.
Not only is it a good picnic table tailgate but it turned out to be a good work bench too after being a parts getting vehicle for other projects. And it lives after a carb rebuild.
Speaking of parts I got a new dome light cover since the old one disintegrated and got the rear cargo light working for the first time since owning the 4runner. It just needed a bulb.

Heat shields you say? Where do these go? I think mine are all long gone
Cool trips!
I know right what are these things? 😂 always the first thing to go on a vehicle. I found that out on the FJ but my wife's WrECHO they came off at the same time even though it's 8 years older. Must be my driving. The heat shield on the cat for the FJ affected the clutch plate or slave cylinder. After a long drive and let it sit for a few hours it made the clutch grabby and difficult to get in gear. Once I put it back on I never had the issue again.
come on it gets hot in Connecticut, I have to fix these things. Lol. With the amount of driving you have been doing you probably drove away from them, ha ha. I just started to go through your thread and haven't been able to go through all of it yet but wow! Epic road tripping! I have got to do that one day but need to prepare for something like that. I did something similar in my 66 VW beetle a few years back and all didn't go as planned but the car got us back home. Ahhh memories.......
Night and day temps are so opposite now. We took a sunset cruise to one of our favorite places for Ice cream then froze on the way back going from 95 degrees to 60s. You don't notice in other vehicles but when you go by streams and rivers it suddenly gets really cold. Free AC lol.
We’re doing the ice cream runs in the truck up here also🍦🍦🍦👍🏻
And runs to the farm for corn.🌽🌽🌽👌🏻
mmmmmm fresh corn! Good times. It's fun cruising to my favorite Chinese Restaurant a town over too. We came close to getting wet again. It started to rain about 1/4 mile away from home. Just got back under my new tent. I combined the two I had after that awsome hurricane hit.
Yesterday was a no 4runner cruising day, rain all day but today was one of them perfect days for it. Apple and peach picking at Johnny Appleseeds in Ellington CT. We spotted an 86 or later Yota on the way and a cool MG later on. Some pretty big Legos.
With all that is going on this year I finnely got out to do some fly fishing ( boy I stink at that😂 and my waders leak more than I expected. I couldn't find my waiting shoes. Couldn't find half my fly fishing gear but decided to go anyway hoping I'd get lucky, not this time lol. Turned out to be a fun little Wheeling adventure to the spot. Also a nice drive back to the backside of Barkhamsted Reservoir again.
So I wake up the other day and the 4runner is gone! Then the wife sends me this pic from work, ha ha😉
I'm hoping in the next couple of weeks to get into repairing the rusted windshield frame, finally. So with that in mind and today's weather being so nice we went on one last adventure before the 4runner is out of commission for a while. Buells Orchard Eastford CT Getting just the right shot. The right shot 😉 Lunch time stop.
I swear we have seen more wildlife from the 4runner than anything else. I always joke around when this happens like I'm the driver at Kilimanjaro safari ride at Disney world.

Yikes! That’s really getting into it.
Time to replace the windshield if you need one.
The photo reminds me that on my old 84 4runner i painted the top of the gauge housing flat black to cut down on the sun glare on the windshield. Very helpful for summer driving.

you hit the nail on the head about that glare! I have considered the idea of painting the top of the gauge cluster.
yeah I do plan on replacing the windshield due to the crack in the top of the driver side from welding over a year ago and the heat got to be too much. I did want to get this windshield out in one piece to use as a guide to help in rebuiling the frame. I have a rubber seal for installation to illuminate the trim. We really didn't have the trim anyhow. Also whoever installed that windshield did a horrible job . Gobbs of adhesive that were not even holding the entire windshield in. Plus it was glued in crooked as well.
Windshild cleaned up and new gasket in place, I could just pull the windshield in if I wasn't planning on fixing all the rust. Notice at the bottom of the windshield , a few tools for getting the glass out. I broke a bunch of the cables to cut the adhesive. The
cable gets so hot that it starts to smoke.
Two of the corners are starting to look like corners again ( drivers side upper and lower) . I didn't take a before of the corners but they all look like the rotted one above. Anyway more sanding, grinding, welding, sanding and my special filler and some paint......
forward progress.
