Looking good! Rebuilding the drag link on my old ‘84 4runner made a world of difference.
just curious, what did you paint the calipers with?

The drag link is a future project the end that connects to the steering knuckle wasn't coming off for anything. As for the calipers those are the Napa Eclipse calipers they come already painted probably could use another coat of paint though I don't know how great the paint is. Although I wasn't thrilled with the fact that they're remand in Mexico they do have a two-year warranty. And I also noticed they had an extra seal around the Pistons that even the originals didn't have.

Now that I'm on to the rear axle it's time for some axle bearings. It's a good thing I took this apart for the third member swap because it turned out that the axle bearings are on the way out.

Slow progress but I got the axle bearings installed and new seals. I was in the process of installing the rear wheel cylinders and stripped the passenger side connecting the brake line. I decided to put the old ones back in. I was considering rebuilding them since they are OEMand I didn't really like the ones from NAPA but I may do something else in the future.

After 2 weeks it's back on all four again.
I cleaned up the e brake hardware. Now it moves well.

Lookin good!
It was a long time ago but I did similar stuff on my '84. Swapped front/rear diffs and new axle bearings. It will be nice and quiet on the road now.

Speaking of other years how's yours treating you?

My truck is running well and getting a 100-200 miles per week, dry sunny days only. I plan to get the soft top back on in May and working on adding a frame-mounted receiver hitch for bike rack. Of course there's all the other New England summer stuff to do also...work on house, garden, other cars, family vacation...it can't all be 4Runner time... Keep up the good work on yours!

Your right about more thing to do than just the 4runner! I need to get caught up on some fishing, this weekend.
Meanwhile at home tree removal. The 4runner is just one home improvement step. Next is the chimney and roof that I put on 21 years ago. It won't be me this time. Ha, ha. Plus some other big projects. I feel like a project coordinator. Plus shop supervisor while working on the 4runner when these guys are doing their thing.
Other vehicles needing my attention tho. I did a bunch of work similar to the 4runner on my 08 FJ last year. Struts, front wheel bearings, calipers, pads and rotors. Hopefully it won't be needing too much from me for now😉

So I'm finally getting around to some of the engine mechanical stuff and found it had a code for the TPS. (A while ago)I took the thottle body off to clean and test the TPS. I have not measured ohms in a long time but think I remember now 😉 looks like it's infinite on step 2 .
looks like this condtion
looks like this condtion
- Now, if the TPS never makes the idle transition (i.e. it reads infinite at all throttle openings, or it reads < 2300 ohms at all throttle openings), then likely it is bad. This is where I got that information :http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/index.shtml#AliveOrDead

back in business thanks to LC Engineering, again. New TPS in.
I also swapped the transmission mount mount as well. This thing has never seen salt. My FJ has more rusted in hardware. The bolts came off easily just tight.

I ment to post these photos first. We took a little beach trip with it to Hammonasset State park and Sunday a trip to one of our favorite road side stops, Frog Rock Rest Stop. Ashford CT. Oh and a little light duty off roading, behind a Camry lol

Ha! Frog Rock!
Glad to see it looking good. That rock was a magical thing when I was a kid. We used to drive by there on the way to visiting family in Coventry, CT.

We even used to stop by in the 90s when it was shut down. Frog Rock Rest Stop has a great story! The state put it up for auction years ago and the current owners purchased it. We went by shortly after and saw they built a structure there. I thought they built a house on it and it was never going to be open again but I was wrong. They built a little antique store on it and now have a food stand. Just look at the deals on the cheeseburgers! One of the first time's we stopped by I got to talking to the owner about making this a stop on the Connecticut Volkswagen Association Foilage Cruise and he was like we have to do a show! Now every July we do a get together there. There is a Jeep show coming up soon.

some things are happening 😉 this is two and half weeks in. Once the bed is done I'll be taking a break from welding again. I think the windshield will be in the fall. The frame is gunna be another big project.
