I think we found a less crowded place to hike and came at the perfect time for some interesting photos. It's East Granby Recreation area. It leads up to a nice scenic overlook (cliff) . This parking lot it the less popular spot to park. There is another place closer to Old Newgate Prison that is a real popular spot.

Yesterday I got a bunch of grease and dirt in my eyes fixing an exhaust leak. Seems the guy who installed the engine back in February did a bad job hooking up the manifold to the y pipe 😂 ( me) I unhooked all the hangers this time so I could bolt the y pipe on flat.

anyhow it's quieter now so went back to that same hiking spot with the cliff after a short test on the highway. This was the first time on the highway since the engine rebuild.

Forgot to mention I really like the Felpro gaskets I found for the exhaust and a few other parts on this build. Not that the OEM gaskets are of lesser quality but seems like Felpro are made for parts that may be a little out of tolerance or old. Just my opinion though.

Looks like you are really getting some miles in!
I’ve always used Felpro gaskets with good results also.

That sounds good! I hope to get a camping trip in with my son and my 4runner this summer. Good old-fashioned American road trip.

1985 is calling and we are tuning in. Today I hooked up the CB Antenna. I'm still having reservations on permanently mounting the CB yet.

turns out the gasket is actually made by walker for the y pipe. I ordered two sets from Rock Auto the other set is wrong. I thought I went with Felpro then I was reading how somebody didn't like Felpro because it was stacked instead of spiral and didn't look like the one's I got. I looked them up and it looks like they now make them spiral. The ones I got are similar to modern style gaskets.

nice! My 1990 was just vynal like the cealing. The trim pieces are off till I get around to the windshield frame repair. We're still dealing with the cracked windshield for now. I Was working on a replacement before the COVID thing started so if we get pulled over because of that I'll just point out the fact that everything went sideways 😎

meanwhile I pulled the trigger and mounted the CB. It's on with bolts and wing nuts because it won't always be left in there with the top off.

I think a lot depends on the local constabulary. My pickup has had a top-bottom crack, right in the middle of the passenger side, in it for 20 years or so now, and I've never been pulled over for it once.
I had the windshield replaced when I was still in Yuma, because the old one had been pretty badly fogged, or hazed, by the abrasive sand in Yuma. Nasty stuff, for a nasty place. Since I went to work near sunrise, and home near sunset in those days, it made seeing out kinda tough.
Anywho, 3 days after it was replaced, I was driving to work. I unfortunately got behind a gravel truck. No place to get around him. Of course, those trucks in Yuma shed small rocks the entire time they were moving. I was lucky enough to catch one, bottom of the passenger side. The crack grew over time until it was up to the top. The gravel truck companies have a policy of replacing the windshields they crack, but I just never got around to getting down and doing it, and then I moved away, so I figure my insurance can pay.
It's never leaked any water, even when I got caught in a pretty bad thunderstorm a couple years ago. The rain was a real deluge, but no leaks, so...

I'm just going to leave it until I get pulled over for it, or get the spare cash to fix it. Shouldn't take much, I've got glass insurance. We'll see eventually.
Pat☺

I have checked it out law wise, it's up to the officer and how it might be in the driver's field of vision. Nothing very specific. We'll let it ride till I'm ready to do the frame. I did try that window chip glue and a drill to stop it from spreading but it's1 inch longer since then.

a couple of shots from today, the longest highway drive since the engine rebuild. Around 30 miles both ways.

it pays to know the less popular hiking trails these days.

this is what it looks like today. Took another trip out there today after new OEM spark plug wires, cap and rotor.

Another big cruise, Frog Rock rest area Eastford CT. 70 miles round trip up and over some big hills for the old 4runner. Feels like it's running stronger these days I'm able to use 5th gear more often than just highway driving.

Top of Power Steering leaking

So I am having problems with my power steering leaking onto my radiator. This is the only leak I have and I am sure the hoses aren’t leaking. How can I fix this? Is it just a bad gasket? Has anyone had any experience with this? I haven’t taken this apart yet and it doesn’t look like it tightens like a bolt.

His is the top of my power steering pulley. Why is it leaking? Is it just a bad gasket?

You posted in the wrong place but I would start off with the correct hose to the pump. That blue one looks too short, the original has a bend in it. I think for the engine movement. It's also said (22RE Performance) that any other hose will constantly leak. There is an o ring in that part of the pump. You have to unbolt the part the hose is clamped on.

Hope this helps.

Geez I just was suggesting the idea of putting the top back on this morning to the wife. You should have seen the look she gave me. 😂 I took the portable garage down for a while. I really got my 150 out for the garage 2 years ago and it's beyond its life. Just in case we do really get rain in the near future I was thinking it would be a good idea to have the top so we don't have to worry when out and about. A soft top would be nice and maybe some day but it's not in the budget especially this year. We're still waiting for that "stimulus check " lol such a joke. I got a real nice canvas tarp that I make into a cover and it could be used in the case of an emergency when out on the road. I'll have to post a photo sometime.

a few shots from cruising last night to the Connecticut Trolly Musam in East Windsor CT and a late stop for Ice cream at Dairy Cream in Windsor Locks CT. A real nice night out in a convertible and the Trolly was a convertible too!
