Use the Aisins (OEM) and not the Warns IMO as the Warns are notorious for coming loose and busting.

Thanks again that link is great robenhood. It explained the martack so even I could understand it. I'm starting the otherside now and I'll swap the hubs on both to the Aisins hubs. Hopefully they come off the bone yard diff without too much hassel. I'll let you know how I make out.

alittle help?

Hey the pics you have posted are great, i am planning on the same project except with mine is a different case. i was out wheeling and my tires are way too big, so when it flexed it stuffed the front tire into the wheel well. causing something to break in the front end. I took it out with zero miles on the new detroits and longfields. do you think it is something else then the longfields? or maybe hubs? im new at this. i called longfield and they said i can send them in and get a new set. i have switched to 36 iroks in place of my 39.5s i had on it. any advice?

Could you be more specific on what broke in the front end?

Longfields have a lifetime guarantee last I heard, but I doubt you broke the longs.

I am glad this old thread helped though.

Bad axle seal causing gear oil to leak into the knuckle and mix with the grease.

Did you not have to grind anything to get the longfields to fit?

in theory, no... however, some people have to, some do not... i did not have to grind.

when you put the longfield birf into the housing, you must make sure to use the c-clip listed in the picture below... that clip holds the birf into the brass bushing, without it the birf will back out a bit and flop around inside the knuckle ball.

you'll see many people stupidly leave that clip out... bobby specifically said that it must be there... my axle did not have that clip, and the longfield birf was grinding around inside the knuckle ball.

when you take the axle apart, make absolutely sure to keep track of where the upper and lower factory shims are located... those shims perform two functions: 1)they center the birf to some extent, 2)they apply drag to the trunnion bearings.

there is a factory service tool that measures both of those clearances, in case someone has messed with the shim settings.
