Solenoid resistor heat?

Just how hot does the thing get? Is it safe to run wiring touching it?

Well, I'll be the first to ask, what are you talking about?

The starter solenoid?
The fan blower resistor?

I have not heard of a "solenoid resistor", unless it is specific to your 4Runner(s), or the EFI system.

Red face

I think they are talking about the injector resistor mounted to the right side inner fender .

I have no clue what a solenoid resistor is or what point it would serve.

It gets warm but it should not be to the point of burning the paint off.

Yes, the injector resistor. I had to look up its name, and "solenoid resistor" is what it was called. It's the solenoid with the cooling fins. I was rerouting some wiring and noticed Toyota was very careful to keep the bundle coming from the ecu well away. Plus, the last three inches of wiring going into the resistor are sheathed in heat resistant material like pyrometer wire. It occurred to me that anything with fins is going to get hot, but I couldn't find anything about just how hot or how distant any wiring ought to be.

Measure Current Through it and components it supplies

it is a resistor so look at FSM to see what its value should be, then measure with this

  • Measure current draw through it with this
  • Measure current draw to components it supplies, then
  • Compare with other owners'
