Proper Break-in procedures?

I'm picking up my first brand new truck in a few weeks and was curious if there's anything written about the proper break-in procedures. I'm sure the dealer will tell me a few things but I dont trust much of what they say these days. Will I be safe installing a Volant intake and a catback exhaust with less than 1000 miles on it?

from what i hear, the factory tests the motor out for a couple thousand miles...or maybe its just a thousand. so it should be good to go as soon as you get it. If it is rebuilt, i would wait a couple thousand so everything is settled properly.

Supposedly Toyota runs new engines at 5000 RPM's for 3 minutes straight to test them out.

Look at my Sig.. 06 Taco. Still wondering if its cool to do mods really early. I know they do exhaust options from the factory so not really worried about that I'm more concerned with the intake.

No flat spots big enough on 4.0L airbox dude...No drop in filters available either besides K&N and TRD. The Volant is a sweet system. URD is supposedly releasing a true Cold Air Intake in the near future also but I don't want to sit around waiting for it. I don't want to hack up my stock box on a brand new truck anyways in case I ever need to return it to stock.

You should be fine driving it straight from the dealer. When I worked in rental at my toyota dealer, we took the cars straight from PDI (pre delivery inspection) to the customer. PDI usually added anywhere from 5-10 miles onto the ODO from 0.

Here is a good article on breaking in new engines of most any type. Definately worth the read. If I ever by something with a new engine, I think I'll use this procedure:
