That sucks....you can just swap out your lift components with the stock ones....What state do you live in, sounds like a crappy law to me

A picture of what lift you have would help.

Just from the picture, it appears that you have way more than four inches of lift.
Looks more like six or eight to me.
What size tires are on it?

thats crap... the cop is wrong fight it... CA has some pretty NAZI laws and they have one like that as well... however according to the law itself to the letter the lowest part of a frame rail that runs the length of the body is where they are supposed to measure it from... oh and look at that, if those are 33s, then look @ where the framerails are between the tires... i bet that is 28" right there.....

According to VA law: No person shall drive on a public highway any motor vehicle registered as a truck if it has been modified by alteration of its altitude from the ground to the extent that its bumpers, measured to any point on the lower edge of the main horizontal bumper bar, exclusive of any bumper guards, do not fall within the limits specified herein for its gross vehicle weight rating category. The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,500 pounds or less shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 28 inches. The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 4,501 pounds to 7,500 pounds shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 29 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 30 inches. The front bumper height of trucks whose gross vehicle weight ratings are 7,501 pounds to 15,000 pounds shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 30 inches, and their rear bumper height shall be no less than 14 inches and no more than 31 inches. Bumper height limitations contained in this section shall not apply to trucks with gross vehicle weight ratings in excess of 15,000 pounds. For the purpose of this section, "truck" includes pickup and panel trucks, and "gross vehicle weight ratings" means manufacturer's gross vehicle weight ratings established for that vehicle as indicated by a number, plate, sticker, decal, or other device affixed to the vehicle by its manufacturer.

screw it....get it registered in another state, that is a state whos laws you meet. A friend used to get all kinds of tickets for his tint from the VA storm troopers, until he registered his truck in Flordia. Now thay cant touch him

Yeah but to get tags for VA you need the vehicle to be regristered in VA right? I know you cant live in a state with tags from another state, learned that one the hard way....same with your license, another hard lesson heheh

It sounds like you just need to lower the bumpers. Weld some steel to them.

Other than that, we need to know what type of lift you have on now. It's pretty obvious you have a body lift, but that doesn't do anything to the frame or bumper.

Front bumper may have been raised for the body lift. If so, remove the raising bracket and that would lower the front bumper. Rear appears to be a stock height bracket. You should be in the 4800# GVWR range with the truck (check the decal inside the door jamb), measure the heights yourself and adjust things as needed. For 33s, you do not need that much lift:

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...it.shtml#FAQ10

You may be able to pull off the taller lift, and sell those parts for more than a milder lift would cost.

Most frame height laws I have seen are to the "lowest" point of the frame. Almost all frame kick up higher in back and most are higher in the front as well. So the proper place to measure is in the center of the truck, where the frame is level and at it's lowest point.

I actually printed out a copy of the CA Vehicle Code on this section, carry it in my truck with a tape measure and know what/where to measure in case I am ever stopped and questioned on this. In CA, it makes a difference how your vehicle is registered as to what specs. you have to meet.

Slimb, that's rough man. Read into CynicX's post and figure out where your vehicle falls into the law. I would imagine there is a way around it. I once got pulled driving my old Chevy strictly because it was lifted. It's BS but just a fact of life...big trucks attract attention just like a bright yellow mustang. If it were me, I know what I would do.....pay the ticket and never lower the truck....but that's just my hard-headedness. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.....I would take off the Body Lift and leave it at that.

where in VA do you live? i think that cop was really bored to go and pull out a yard stick and measure your truck. i drive my 884runner every now and then its on 37" tires, the lowest point on my frame which is the crossmember is 27" off the ground, way higher than yours, and ive never been hasseled. it think it all depends on where in VA you live.

if you read the law as stated in an above post it reads the height it to be measured to the bumpers.
