Haven't ever needed a dash kit before, and I just dont imagine any place local keeps them in stock for this old of a vehicle.

the only thing you will need or should need is a universal pocket. there is a "kit" made for the truck but i think the universal pocket is more usefull.
just my 2 cents

Crutchfield. Once you use them you probably won't shop elsewhere for electronics.

most walmarts have an audio department you could get them out but do a search at amazon or crutchfield and find a part number and then look for the best price from that.

personally, i was too cheap over the years and like the original cubby under the radio in our 87, so i just made the radios over the years fit it! it's a pain in the ass sometimes and a kit would be easier but the jvc that is in there works and looks good for now!

i dont think you need one, once you pull the old one the new deck will have holes on the side to use the original mount to mount it, i did it in my 95, the same dash, and it looks clean like its supposed to be there. you got a pic of your dash now im not seeing why you think you need one

I paid the 5 bucks for one online but since I re ran all the wires from the amp I ended up only using it for the ground, power and ignition

next time I'd just cut them tbh

If you are just going single DIN you should'nt need a kit the factory mounting brackets will attach to most aftermarket headunits I've seen with no problem, and are quite solid.
The wiring harness is another matter you may want a kit for that.

X's 2

but it's a little different story when you're needing to put the stereo in a newer truck, say a 2005+ Tacoma

the wiring harness does help, but it's not completely needed

Yeah with those "integrated" dash panels they use in the newer vehicles you have no choice you need to get a dash kit to allow you to install an aftermarket unit. I'll never understand why they felt they had to go with those "built in" units...
