I got a CD player from work today that I plan on putting in my 06 Tacoma. I got too use to the USB input in my last truck, and am badly missing it with the factory stereo in this truck... so I snagged this deal for $15, and order the single din dash kit this afternoon
But anywho, I've installed a LOT of stereos in my life. Usually on the constant power in line there's a fuse, and that's it. On this one though, there appears to be just a black box that holds some sort of coil or something. I've never seen anything like it on a CD player. Is this just some sort of noise suppressor or something? Would I be fine just lopping this box off the wire all together? If I need to use it, I'm going to have to solder a new wire end on it, because the guys who removed it from the car it came out of cut the wire right at the box

Here's the unit itself. I looked it up online, and all I could find was a user manual, but not any technical or installation manual. I also found out that this stereo use to retail around $300!

it's got one little flaw in the top left where the chrome is a little rubbed off, but I could car less...
oh and it also came with a Sirius and iPod interface adapter and the cables for it; about another $200 worth of hardware

great, so I have bypass it and I have leave it
I think I'll go the safest route and just solder on some new wire so that it's still there like it was when I was new
tracking number shows my installation kit should be in tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have it installed Saturday! unless I get antsy and decide to put it in tomorrow afternoon, lol

From what i can see online, it looks like that box belongs on the harness. I would keep it as its there from the mfg. Purely a guess but, my vote is its a capacitor. Holds a small charge from your battery so when the system hits a loud note it doesn't try to pull all the voltage through your stock wiring. Can't think of anything else they would put on the primary power wire.

That box is a noise filter. A inductance coil you should just solder a wire to it to extend the yellow wire(batt+) it also should be fused a 15 amp fuse is what they usually have ,unless it has the fuse on the chassis by the wire harness plug. Good luck it was a great deal with the sat and iPod combo.

yeah I'll have to add on a fuse holder... probably get one and just solder one of the wires on the fuse holder right to it
there's a fuse on the ACC input, but not the constant for whatever reason
but I assume it DID have one at one time and just got cut off...
thanks!

well I just picked up an inline fuse holder and soldered one end to the open wire, so I kept the box in-line so it's more "original"
and yes, I got antsy and put it in the truck today since the dash kit came in
The color of the dash trim that came in the installation kit is a little "off", but it's allright... I like it!

the lack of a USB input pretty much
I got REALLY use to just throwing 300+ songs on my USB drive and plugging it into the stereo of my F150 and putting it on random... and only being able to put 20 songs on a CD and then having to juggle them while driving to find the one I want really bothers me, lol

I bought an iPod specifically to keep in my truck for the Aux port - I just hope the audio quality will be good enough.

yeah this deck has 2 aux 3.5mm jacks on the back, but I just have them disabled right now because I don't have an cables to hook to them
I plan on getting a pair of them later and routing one to the glove box (with some extra wire on that one so it can be pulled out and plugged into a laptop maybe
) and the other just into the center console
right now I just have the USB routed to the glove box, but I plan on routing that to the center console too

double check that one of those is not the Wired remote plug. I have yet to see a radio with dual 3.5 jacks on the back, not saying its not possible, just saying to check. Most radios will have one aux jack and one for the wired remote, so you can adapt steering wheel controls if you desire.
and that being the case, I don't have the little RCA dongle, so I'll just run the one Aux1 input to the glove box (or center consol... undecided) and call it a day
