Jay, we have a chat that is up 24 hours a day.
All you need is the AOL IM software:
http://www.aim.com/
Or the Trillian's software:
http://trillian.cc/trillian/index.html
See the main Yotatech page for the chat link.
It is setup when you click on it, it takes you to a room called "Toy SUV forum chat."
It is open all the time, and we have talks going on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6 PM sharp PST.
It works great.

I got a toyota irc chatroom on irc.wildchat.org. its a small network that I chat on.. only about 15-20 people usually join the network, but I like it this way. No one to bother us. If you want a #yotatech channel I can open one up. (update: actually I'm working on it now I just found out I can't approve my own channels.) It has a bot that a buddy built from the ground up that sits in all registered channels.
I'm there if I'm online, just notice me to get my attention.
I sat in the aol chat for a while there but was never able to get in there for the schedualed times and nobody ever came in when I was in there so.. I started this channel a while ago and just kept it in my sig. Must edit it cause I just unregistered #toyota.

right now i have 1 jeep guy 1 chevy guy and a 1 4runner guy
would be nice to see some more ppl.
We can also make a yotatech room on that network or any other network.

To update an old thread and direct my comments at Corey:
Have you looked into CGI:IRC Corey?
It works very easy, no software is needed to use it, and installation is a breeze.
I'd recommend a server called ZiRC that I have used for nearly 10 years now which utilizes the CGI:IRC and Java IRC (Not as good IMO).
Here is an example of how it works:
http://www.zirc.org/chat/
In the CGI:IRC field, type in a Nick and a Channel (I'm on #yotatech at this very moment) and click connect. Voila! No software and no hassles.
I would like to see this happen as the main reason I am never on the AIM version is because I am often on a box that isn't mine (work, friends, etc) that does not have AIM or Trillian installed and I can't install it.
You can also log onto the IRC room very easily with Trillian for those users who prefer it.

Hey Steve, that works good, I am on it now.
Remember though, you can not be sure you are really chatting with the person you think they are.
I and many others were impersonated back in the late 90's on Vmag's 4Runner forum by a dufus named zesty.
He would attack me and others and often post with my name, as it was open software not requiring signing up.
But this does work pretty good.
I am so far behind on doing stuff now on the forum, but this can be added later on to the site here as an alternative to the AOL chat room.
To bad this room will not stay up all the time though, one has to create I take it?

You can set moderators with the power to kick and ban to monitor people impersonating.
IRC is a powerful beast, and I'd like to see it in use.
Nicknames can have passwords set on them, so if someone logs on as "Scofco" and doesn't enter the password in a minute or whatever, they will be kicked off.
Moderators can control accounts so for example I couldn't set a password on "Corey" so you couldn't get on. You'd just tell the Mod, and if it's verified that it's not you who reg'd the account, they can delete it for you.
You and your lack of time!

Just an idea for if you get some spare time...

how can i configure Trillian to connect to this IRC chat? it looks like all i need is the server address
sweet i figured it out...
server: irc.zirc.org
nick/user: YT user name
once you connect you have to wait a few minutes for what ever reason and then goto join channel and type yotatech.
