1986 2WD pickup

Gents, I currently have this pickup that I purchased from a family member. I'm tired of the lowrider look and looking to lift it... I told the shop to move the leaf springs to the top of the diff but now regretting it because it's too tall so it's not a big issue... the issue is that the front has the 3" ball joint spacer and torsions are all the way up. Shouldn't the front of the truck sit a little higher or am I seeing wrong. I will be going with 31/10.5/15. If the spacers don't so any justice I might have to look at the lift spindles.

You're going to need the lift spindles

If that truck were mine I'd go back to the stock set-up. Get rid of all that lift nonsense. Even at the rear, unless you often haul loads, the stock leaf springs are adequate.

Looks good. Are you planning a gear swap?

Havent came that far yet. What would you suggest? I also want to swap it for a 5 speed, I still have the 4 speed it came with.

When I bought my 87 2wd they had two trucks on the lot. One had the 5 speed and the other the 4 speed. I told the salesman I wanted the 5 speed and he suggested that I drive the 4 speed first. I bought the 4 speed and not once in all the years I owned it did I regret it. My brother in law bought it off me as a beater for trash runs to the dump and loved it so much it became his daily driver. Still had the stock 14" steel wheels and tiny tires. Awesome fuel economy and quick little truck.

I would use an online gear/tire size calculator to get to back into the original power band. My 86 4WD had 4.10 gears from the factory and putting 4.56's in when I went to 31" tires put it back to what it should be. It was drivable without the gear swap but I hardly got to use 5th gear. You will enjoy driving it more with the proper gear ratio. At least you only have to regear one differential.

With the 4spd, you should have the 8" axle so you can drop 4wd 3rd members into your axle. Should make the right gears a bit easier to find. I would suggest 4.56 but i'm not sure that would be right with a 4spd transmission
