Swaybar disconnect

I have heard of people disconnecting their swaybars for offroad driving, and I was just wondering what the advantage is, and if it would be a good thing to do to my 1986 Pickup.

thanks

It improves your articulation, on ifs anything helps.

If you plan on throwing it out, keep it until you can tell if you like the onroad handling characteristics. Some people say it throws everything outta wack and it sucks to drive, others dont mind it.

I have some tips on that subject below:

Basically try disconnecting them off-road and see if you notice any difference. It'll depend on the terrain and your driving style.

Allright, I will give it a shot. Can I just undo it from the suspension and leave it where it attaches to the frame?

Yes. You may not think you need it until you roll it over. That is why quick disconnects are popular.

You can often get by with disconnecting one end link and as long as the sway bar end is clear of the other suspension components, that will disable the bar. Or you can disconnect both end links and tie the bar ends up to the frame to keep them out of the way.
