Besides disconnecting battery?

Just make sure all the pins are straight and not bent.

clean !!

Make sure you don`t see and marks from the old one getting wet..

remove battery terminal and turn on your lights to drain any caps in the system prior to plugging in the ECU

Something I never thought about was turning on headlights to drain the capacitors. Thanks for the tip.
