rare situtation...removing a locker
so ive got a rear lockrite...i go to school in boone (you might have heard of our football team....) and the only time i really use 4wd anymore is in the snow...i just got new tires, the nitto terra grappler's, because i just dont have time for wheeling anymore. anyways, im entertaining the idea of removing the locker, for several reasons: 1) its annoying as hell in turns 2) i dont really wheel anymore 3) it was a pain in the snow last year 4) it disengages a lot while driving straight, causing me to suspect something is wrong in the axle, so im most likely having someone take a look at it soon...so while hes got it out...
so those are my reasons. im wondering what effect, if any this will have? thanks for any help/advice/comments
also, its been about two years since it was installed, and its come in handy maybe three times

It will make your truck drive like stock again. There really aren't any disadvantages if you don't find yourself wheeling anymore.

You will have to put the "open" spider gear assembly back in. Do you still have it?
Thanks for confirming my choice to do ARB's - that performance in the snow is what I was afraid of.

WOW, a locker in the rear a problem?
I never thought so. Gets me thru 90% of my driving. If it weren't for the fact I occasionally need all 4 wheels driving I'd just run a locker in the rear. But I've got reg. detroit lockers, both front'n'rear.
Now the locker in the front on snowy roads that's another story.

yea get an arb.
the thing is...i dont wheel anymore...and the only time i use 4wd is in the snow...and its not fun to drive in the snow

Sounds like you wouldn't want it. If it disengages while going straight, then it's very likely that one or both of the coupler halves are worn to the point where it ratchets when it isn't supposed to.
That happened to the Lock Right in the rear of the '94 Mazda Navajo that I had. The driver side coupler wore out after about 37,000 miles, which would cause that side to ratchet when it wasn't supposed to.
That's why I replaced it with a No Slip. The No Slip is much more durable, and it's smoother and quieter as well.
You should just be able to reinstall new spider gears and side gears. There probably isn't anything else wrong with your differential.

Just get a used 3rd member from a junkyard and swap it in. Only thing you need to do is match the gearing:
