lifting my 83 truck

I just bought an 83 4x4 and i wanted to ask if anyone has found a cheap way to lift these trucks. Its leaf springs all around and i was wondering if i could just put in some lift blocks and new U bolts, or if i could use leaf springs or modified leaf springs from another truck. I would like to avoid making modifications to other parts of the truck, but if they are needed then i will just find a way to make it work. Im a junior in college so cash is really tight. I would like to fit 33 12.5s and i plan to do some trimming of my fenders if i need it, but i would still like to lift the truck three inches or more. Any help would be greatly appreciated, ive worked on other brands of trucks before, but this is my first toyota. Thanks.

avoid blocks if possible. your truck is pretty cheap to lift, but you need to consider your long term plans for the truck. you can spend $100 lifting it or you can spend much more, depending on your use and ultimate plans

I plan on having this truck less than a year so i dont want to spend a huge amount of money lifting it. It will just be used for getting to work and weekends i will 4x it. How would i get the sucker lifted for $100? thanks

you will need ~3 inches to clear the 33x12.5s so

superlift #7000 add a leaf kit X 2 ~$40 each

longer shackles $20-? depending on whether you make your own or you buy them.

this will run more than $100, the only sure fire way to be under $100 is blocks or a body lift

you arent going to be lifting it and putting 33s under it and wheeling on the weekends for under $100

this is a little more than you want to spend but, my friend has a 83' with 4" procomp front springs that cost $90, and a procomp add a leaf with shackles in the rear, the add a leaf cost him $29, and a 1.5" body lift, he is running 36x12.5 swampers with little to no rub, oh and he is also running a draglink drop, im not sure what that cost him

You can read about some of the suspension lift issues on my page.

3" lift out of shackles alone is a bit much to ask, you would need them to be about 5"-6" longer than stock, which is pretty darn long. A good option (shourt of new springs) is to combine some add-a-leaves with longer shackles. Do 1"-2" with the AALs (Rancho SoftRide AAL kit is good) then make up the rest with longer shackles. You'll also need longer shocks (front and rear), likely longer brake lines (or at least relocate the lines to reach), adjustment to the LSPV sensing rod on the rear axle, possibly an adjustable draglink for the front steering and maybe an adjustable torque rod or bracket as well.

A body lift is another option

That was about 7 years ago, but I recall it was in the $400-500 range, for 4 springs, 4 shocks and some of the otehr parts like longer brake lines, LSPV bracket, etc.

With enough trimming anything fits. Ive got my Q's mounted with the equivilent of 1". 33x9.5's fit with no trimming or anything. wider requires a small ammount at the bottom of the fenders.

NWOR 3.5" leaf springs - $200 plus shipping, where are you? I think i have shocks somewhere too. You will also need shims, which tilt your yolks upward and make alignment easier up front. Helps if you change the steering arm to a top link also, but i ran it without that and just had to be careful not to turn too hard to the right. I had my truck up on these for awhile running 35's, but it rode pretty stiff, so i took it back down. I can send you a picture iff you want, price includes shocks if i can find them. Shackels will not work because to get 3" of lift you would need them to be almost a foot long (6" longer than they already are) and that is downright dangerous. Have fun;

Hey i have a 1983 toyota pickup. i want to lift it and i have alot of parts rigs. do you think i could put rear leafs in the front and 3in blocks in the rear. or would i need bigger or smaller blocks.

Also i was wondering about ball joint spacers for my 88 toyota 4runner.

Some one also told me something about 63in chevy springs in the rear. is that like half ton chevy springs????
