Advice: get the proper gasket from TOYOTA and don't use any 'aids' to seal it

BAD TROY, VERY BAD TROY!!!

Sounds like you need to call Josh and get some quality Japanese parts back on that banshee!

You can use some permatex high temp sealer, but it will smell from burning and ultimately leak again.

Hey Troy, ......

I went into the exhaust shop that did my pipes to cat, etc., .... they slapped in one I've not seen that was like the pic you showed, ...but it had MUCH thicker fabric/metal weave on the outside that was encapsulating a normal donut gasket..... Maybe try an exhaust shop and ask em if they have a more 'leaky proof' version than you got there? They'll usually sell ya one, maybe even put it in so you'll come to them next time(this shop did that for me, initially lol)

Far as the TAP, .... best selection and quality I've ever found(pretty much the ONLY one around for the most part) is "NAPA"... they will order it if you call ahead and they're w/out it at the time. Try em, ..should work.

well, heres the thing, joe, the cast iron manifold, other than being ugly as sin and not a good design, has no problems... the problem is that the collector cracked completely around where it comes into one pipe... not fixable and yards around here want as 250+ for it...

$250 for a junkyard manifold? Geezzusss! You can get the mini header conversion for around $300 IIRC.

You could make a new gasket. Match it up as best you can, and do some cutting to fit it. The only crucial part to match exactly is that ring in the center. Worth a shot

the gasket simply looks to thin to me troy. Double it up, use lock lock washers and make sure you exhaust is properly hung.

All problems now fixed!

Got the bolts in... Had to go to sears and buy a thread chaser set... Spent 2 hours cleaning up the threads... They were nasty... Also got 2 new gaskets for the header... No more cheap "made in canada" bullpuckey...

She shifts real nice now... Have to adjust the clutch rod still... Exhaust is quiet but I found 5 pinholes in my muffler...

Pretty happy with the results...

was thinking... will an exhaust leak cause an o2 sensor to go bad... especially one that has almost 250K on it?

Depends on where the exhaust leak is.

If its close enough to the engine you will burn a valve in the process too

nah... nowhere near that close... its about 4" above the upstream sensor...

need to go down to the pick n pull and get an OEM flange off a toyota to weld in there... that way i can use an OEM gasket...

a little update...

sold the old motor (sorry, chef, you missed out) for a couple hundred bucks...
with that money i am going to buy a new head unit since this one only has 2 buttons that still work... also gonna get a new 02 sensor and i have a buddy who works for a chevy dealership so he got me 2 chevy malibu cat. flanges... going to grind the sleve off one so they fit together nice and then use sonme of the money to get the exhaust fixed once and for all... whatever is left over is getting spent on gas for my yearly trip to WA...

also, my birthday was last week and my parents got me a draw-tite class 3 hitch and complete wiring harness... so, im gonna need to get that installed too...

I know, Brudda...... and I'm VERY grateful for the offer. I was asking if anyone could help me wire it, etc., .... but couldn't get that figured out for the dash wiring, etc. end. I wound up finding a really good machinist who felt so bad for me he's pretty much doing this for parts costs. Again, I REALLY appreciated that offer, man!

Glad you have a good plan and the stuff's for the exhaust fix. What kinda deck you getting? Maybe a 4" face with GPS, etc., etc.? I've been really wanting one of those 'do it all' decks, lol. Lil pricey for me right now, but would be cool! lol.

NP chef... been meanin to make it down that way anyways... ill figure out sometime to some day...

as for the HU, i dont need nothin fancy... touch screens are cool, but they dont belong in a rig like mine... i mean, its NEVER been vaccuumed, and only gets washed when it rains... the HU im lookin at gettin will do everything i want and is expandable...

Alpine CDA-105... basically the same unit that was in my runner, just a little more upgraded and has more features... i really liked all my alpines... never had any problems with em, so thats what im stickin with...
