That gets to replace this...

I think there's something wrong here...

So, the clutch cover WAS waaaaaayyyy overtorqued... Lesson learned... Trans was out in an hour... Fastest trans pull yet... The flywheel is fine... Checked good with a straightedge... Clutch, not so good... Looks like one of the springs on the clutch broke it's retainers, the center of the clutch decided to break it's mounts and go cockeyed, which explains why the TO bearing got messed up...

Here's the rest of the pics, but, please let this be a lesson... Study study study the FSM before you begin a project... Even if you THINK you know, reread it!!!

The shiny parts were actually ground down from rubbing on the heads of the flywheel bolts...

The retainer things for the springs on the clutch disc is sitting in the center allowing the spring to move laterally... (top left)

The bronze area is actually metal that is burned... (again, top left)

Definitely explains the violent shudder...

Pressure plate is burned, but not cracked or glazed...

One thing to note, and idk if it had anything to do with it or not, but when I replaced the TO last week, the clutch fork boot wasn't attached correctly and there was dried muddy water residue in the bellhousing and on the TO... When I pulled the clutch tonight a little bit of tan dust drifted out, which leads me to believe that the clutch was also damaged from that...

Any way you look at it, the 1200lb clutch is going in tomorrow...

Hey Man ,...... just checkin in. Best wishes on the install, you'll get it quick!

Also, I've heard people word things differently, so in case I'm reading correctly, I just wanted to say sorry for your loss of Grandpa.... Glad you had a celebration of his life though!

Take care, man, ... have a good week.

my grandpa didnt pass away, he just turned 80, but hes giving up on life... he had a strole about 8 years ago, and hes just tired of fighting...

as for the transmission, i got the clutch in... it works great! smooth clutch throw, not too stiff... really nice... still had a problem with the shifting tho, so i drained and replaced all the transmission oil and transfercase oil... still no dice... re bled the master and slave for the clutch, still no dice... adjusted the pedal(that took forever!) and still no change... then, as i was boredly pumping the clutch, :EDIT: this part of the story was edited because i feel like a complete idiot... :/EDIT:

so tomorrow i have high hopes that it will be completely fixed...

Ahhhhh, ok, well, sorry to hear he's given up. Kinda ticked at my pops at the moment, who's just turning 80 in May and has kinda sat around to the point that he's a mess(was a star athlete, up to 70, starting from 12.....) Not sure what happened, but WOW, it's tough to see them quit. A stroke is rough, ...both my mother and step father have had them. My mom's was pretty large, but through REALLY hard work, ...at 78, she's still driving, passes the Medical Bar every year in CA to this day and runs circles around my pops....(In all logic, she shouldn't have recovered like she did... she's quite the miracle they say.... But STILL)> Wish pops was closer, ....I'd DRAG him outta there every day!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow for ya, Space...... glad the rest went really smooth and you're happy with the results.

one other thing i forgot about is that when i changed the trans fluid, little black chunks of rubber came out... the fluid was reddish brown... pretty sure it was old and needed a flush, but what stumps me is what the black rubber could be... my dad thought maybe the shifter seat bushing, but i thought that was a hard-er plastic...

insight is appreciated...

the drain plug was PACKED full of little black rubber chunk crap... this is just an idea... prolly 20 times that came out of the oil...

ugh... you suck, DC...

ok, im an idiot... lets just get that out of the way first...

i didnt read the FSM like i should have... when i originally pulled the motor, i only had 3 bolts that connect the bellhousing to the motor... the drivers one was nonexistent, therefor i didnt know that i was missing one...

well, swapped the motor, and over 3K miles, the passenger side lower bolt decided to exit stage left... idk where it went... so, only the 2 top bolts have been holding the trans to the motor... when the clutch engages, the bottom of the trans seperates, from the pressure, from the bottom of the motor a good 1/4"...

so, the going into gear issue is caused by that(hopefully) and the violent shudder was caused by the clutch being toasted... complete coincidence...

anyways, i went down to the dealership this morning to get some replacements and according to their computer, there are 5 different lengths brought up by the same part number... anywheres from 60mm to 40mm all seperated by 5mm... so we didnt know the exact length... he went ahead and ordered 2 of each and will only charge me for the 2 that i need...

just an FYI, the 60mm ones are the rarest with only 4 of them available in the entire US... next size down theres 80 in the US and they will be here tomorrow from Los Angeles...

^well sounds like a non-secured tranny would definitely cause some issues, lol. i'm guessing once you've got all those bolts lock-tite'd in-place then you'll be back on the road (i mean trails).

fyi, ACE hardware has an amazing hardware inventory in-store for those emergency bolt purchases. so does Fastenal.

Ace has bolts... Picked some up thanks to scuba taking measurements of his... Unfortunately, they won't go in... In thinking the threads are boogered... So I'm going to stop by the store tomorrow morning to get an M12-1.25 thread chaser to clean them up...

This has been the biggest headache yet with this truck...

finally got 3 of the 4 bolts i ordered from the dealership... so tomorrow i get to test them out... but first things first, i need a TAP thats m12x1.25 thread pitch and i cant find one ANYWHERE! i went to Lowes, Home Depot, OSH, Autozone, O'REiley's... crap... closest i could find to a standard equivalent is a 7/16thsx20... its just a HAIR loose...
but the threads are buggered, so i need it... any advice would be appreciated...

also, think i got my exhaust leak figured out... the collector flange gasket was either installed improperly or the wrong piece all together... either way im going to get a new one... any advice on "exhaust sealing aides"??

pic of the bolts... (i think im gonna be a nice guy and, if the 60mm bolts arent needed, return them to the dealer... theres only 4 in the US)

wonder why this didnt seal the exhaust very well...
