Nice Progress!! For some reason I haven't gotten an update from your thread recently. Congrats on the Motor!!! Looks like you're chuggin' along pretty quickly with it...

Btw, from looking at it in the pics, the block doesn't look much different in size from a 22r. Could it look smaller mostly be an optical illusion because there is actually more room under the hood of a Taco?

Chris is a good guy too... I'm always surprised when I call after months of not stopping in and Charles recognizes my name and or voice. lol I think I've bought a few to many parts over the past few years. lol And ya, Charles has had to double check with Chris on more than one occassion when I was inquiring about different things too.

Hope you had a Great Thanksgiving and are making more progress on your rebuild!!

Just to give everyone an idea, this is what my motor sounds like all day every day... Granted this is it warming up, but it sounds the same just lower revs when warm...

Cold and idling @1200...

Warm @697RPM and reving just shy of 3K...

What's the advantage to removing the balance shaft? Less mass in motion?

yes...
less rotating mass...

when i ordered my kit, they called me to get the bearing sizes, and while i had them on the phone i asked them about the BSR kit... they said that if this was just gonna be a bsic rebuuild for nothing but a daily driver not to get it because you will never see the gains from it... but if your gonna be racing or 4wheeling where the power is a necessity, its great and that i will DEFINATELY notice a difference... and he also said that if i were to replace the mechanical fan with an electric one, get a free flow exhaust, and smoother intake for the air, the motor will happily and quickly rev out to 6 grand no questions asked...

sounded good, but i still asked him about the vibration... he said it WILL vibrate more, but since toyota redesigned the motor mount bushing compound with the tacomas, i wouldnt feel anything in the cab... the bushings would absorb all the vibes...

2... You have to punch out the bearings and put new ones in(but the kit comes with the tool) and you have to drill and tap for a pipe plug... So, you need special tools, but it's pretty basic...
